Dear USAG and USOC,

I’m a nobody. And I fucking hate you. I’m not a gymnast and I’ve never gone to the olympics. I was never abused by Larry Nassar. Never met anyone with the last name Karoli. I’ve never been to Texas.

I fucking hate you though because you made me complicit. I was a fan. I loved the summer olympics because I got to watch gymnastics. I was a four-year fan as they’re called. And then I got so into it that I became a full-time fan keeping up with the sport even during non-Olympic years.

What I didn’t know at the time was that I was supporting two organizations that allowed HUNDREDS of girls and young women to be abused. And I’m not just talking about Larry Nassar here. I’m talking about the culture. I’m talking about the girls who felt like they had no voice, no control, no ownership over anything not even their own bodies. And it’s YOUR fault. And you made me complicit because you wanted my money and my viewership so you could make more money. And I hate you for that. You took something that I enjoyed and you exploited it for your own gain.

I loved watching the fierce five and the final five win their gold medals. I loved watching McKayla, Aly, Gabby, Kyla, Jordyn, Simone, Maddy, and Laurie take a bite out of their gold medals. I was so happy for them and they should be proud of themselves. But you know what? I would rather watch Team USA lose every single year than if that means that the women that make up that team are SAFE and HEALTHY.

To McKayla, Gabby, Aly, Kyla, Jordyn, Simone, Laurie, and Maddy, I’m proud of you. To all the women who never made it to the olympics but went through the same HELL, I’m really proud of you too.

To Morgan, Reagan, Jordan, Maile, Emma, Shania, Trinity, Jade, Sunisa, Gabby, Olivia, Margzetta, and all of your friends and teammates, I’m proud of you too. Keep working towards your dreams. Don’t give up. I want you to be safe and healthy on the way to accomplishing your goals. I can’t say that I support USAG or USOC but I support YOU!

USAG and USOC, you better get your shit together. Because now we know. Now, we aren’t complicit anymore. Now, we are watching. And we aren’t going anywhere.

Charities/organisations to avoid:

PETA: They’d rather spend their money on publicity campaigns than on the animals in their care. PETA killed 73.8% of the animals in their care in 2015 (x)

FCKH8: Is a for-profit company that exploits oppressed groups for money. They’re also wildly uninformed, and spread misogyny, cissexism and bi/panphobia, as well as stealing their posts/designs (x)

Autism Speaks: They spend most of their money on researching a way to eliminate autism, heighten the stigma against autism and don’t have a single autistic person on their board (x)

Please support other, better charities, and feel free to add any others you can think of to this.
