A version of Dwobbit Frodo who longs to become king of Erebor and out run the greed based fate which befell Thor (and Thorin). But who must learn to cope with the fact that his fate is to never rule
Who's designed to contrast with Aragorn who fears ruling Gondor and falling to greed like Isildur but must learn that it's his fate to be king
Fascinating how what's considered feminine and what's considered masculine can change over time. The rebranding of being a horse girl into being a stereotypical feminine girly trait needs to be studied.
Look at classic children's novels. As recently as the 50s and early 60s, being obsessed with horses as a girl was depicted as strange and tomboyish, and the very concept of being obsessed with horses from early childhood and loving toy horses and desperately wanting your own horse being a "little girl thing" and not a "little boy thing" would send someone from the 1800s and earlier into a coma.
There's maybe a point to be made here somewhere about how when keeping and riding horses stopped being necessary to the functioning of society and became a more "frivolous" thing, it was rapidly rebranded as silly and girly and for women, but what do I know.
i wrote a paper in my masculinity studies class in college about this exact phenomenon, specifically about how high heeled shoes started as a practical way for Persian cavalry to keep their feet on their stirrups, then likely due to that association, became a popular fashion item and status symbol among the upper classes of Europe, before the Great Male Renunciation of the 18th-19th centuries, when men started shunning opulence in favor of utility, leaving them as a fashion item for women instead.
I've joked that the two genders are Aesthetic and Utility before but thats just kinda the case

To pass the time on long rides, Bilbo starts absent-mindedly braiding Myrtles mane. He does it almost subconsciously and is completely unaware of all the dwarf eyes keenly watching him.
Because they're good braids, some of them quite complicated and no one can understand just how he knows how to do that.
The only conclusion they could come to is that the hobbit must have a paramour back in The Shire, some long-haired lass who he spoils with pretty love-braids.
Thorins temper had been truly foul after Balin had proposed the theory out loud.
After weeks of Thorin sulking, it was ever curious: Ori, who finally asked where Bilbo had learned such intrecate braid work.
Bilbo then flushed and embaressedly explained that he'd learned it from competitive pie decorating.
โ(Just Like) Starting Overโ is very McLennon coded and is about flying away and going on a trip somewhere to rekindle a love between two people who have grown and known each other for a long time to be โtogether all alone againโ like they โused to in the early daysโ
It makes you wonder if the song is referring to the trip to Paris that John and Paul went on in the early days of the Beatles. It was also written during a time when John and Paul were not on the best terms and were very much in need of starting over.
But THEN, I just came across something that SUPER confirms this.
โStarting Overโ In โJohn Lennon: The Collected Artworkโ.
I think sometimes we get too caught up in world of a story to remember what it's really about- of course Orpheus fails because no one can bring the dead back to life. of course Orpheus looks back because that's what grieving is- looking back at someone you can't be with anymore, looking back and losing them again and again.
"Master Baggins, you don't understand," Thorin said as softly as he could, trying to find the hobbit's gaze with his.
"I understand everything, thank you very much," Bilbo grumbled, stubbornly looking at a very interesting pattern on the wooden floor in Bard's house and feeling the way his heart squeezed even harder than before. "If you don't want to deal with me, you could just say that. I wouldn't be getting in your way," he added in an even quieter voice.
"It's not like that." Thorin frowned, making a step towards the hobbit and gently putting his heavy hand on his shoulder. "I just... I don't want you to suffer if..." Thorin looked away and swallowed. His icy blue eyes became slightly darker with the concerned and almost heartbroken fire that lit up in their depths. "If something happens to me."
Bilbo could feel his heart beating faster. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, if you were to ask him. He suddenly felt the need to go outside to breath in the cold autumn air.
"So, you're telling me thatย you'reย deciding what to do withย myย feelings?" His voice was quiet, but the rising anger couldn't be completely hidden behind it. The hobbit shrugged off Thorin's hand and looked up with fierce eyes, resisting the urge to tug on the dwarf's braids. "You may be a king; well, you may be whatever you want! But you do not rule others' feelings," not paying attention to the yet-to-be-a-king startled look, Bilbo blasted, feeling offended and heartbroken at once. "If you don't feel the same, if you don't want me to bother you, just say so โ I won't bother you again; I'll step aside. But if you think that you can order me not to love you just because there's a chance something can happen to you, then you're a fool, Thorin Oakenshield." Bilbo could feel his fingers shaking slightly, so he made a fist out of them.
Thorin didn't say anything for a couple of seconds. He just looked at the hobbit with both puzzled and tender eyes.
Then he wrapped his arms around Bilbo's shoulders and pulled him closer, nuzzling into his fluffy curly hair and closing his eyes.
"You're right, Bilbo. I'm sorry." The quiet whisper was almost lost in the curls, but the hobbit heard it. That was all that mattered.
***
Blood is warm. And it's not sticky, no. It's watery and it makes a mess. A mess on Thorin's chest. Bilbo couldn't understand if it were his tears on his cheeks or Thorin's blood. He hugged Thorin's dead body and cried. Cried loudly and ugly. His face buried in the dwarf's long and wet from snow, ice and blood hair.
***
Bilbo didn't feel anything, frankly. He felt like everything lost its value and hue in one moment. Emotions especially. What was the point of crying, of mourning? What was the point of all of that lamentation if it didn't bring anything back?
His legs felt like lead when he walked out of the mountain after the funeral to breath in the cold air. The winter was just about to start, and it was obvious.
"Bilbo." The quiet crackling voice came from behind.
"I'm alright, Gandalf," Bilbo said, not looking at the wizard. "Everyone acts like they care. Like he wasn't just a ruler for them. It's so fake." The hobbit looked down and smiled bitterly.
"My dear friend, the people lost their king." Gandalf carefully put his hand on Bilbo's shoulder. "But, of course, their grief is not as great as yours," he added quietly.
"How could he leave me?" The calm appearance Bilbo tried so hard to maintain cracked, and he looked up, feeling his eyes welling up with tears. His eyes were already burning from how much he cried already. "Gandalf, I... I don't understand."
hi !! do you have any tips on tumblr? or anything that i should know to make my fics more engaging? thank u !! i also wanna learn how to add the colors on fonts and stuff and the line on the words ๐ฅน๐ซถ kinda like this
(i just took it from fics i like, credits to the original writer !!) these are like the examples, can you maybe teach me? ๐ฅนโ๏ธ im still a rookie on this app tbh
OH MY GOSH THANK FOR ASKING THIS QUESTION!! I would love to help you out!!
A basic guide to decorating your posts
Welcome! Here Iโll tell you just about everything you need to know for making your tumblr posts pretty. So without further ado, letโs get into it!
Using Tumblr-provided tools
Tumblr has some pretty good, easy to use effects already, which is one of the reasons why I love the UI. For adding basic effects to your text, hereโs a breakdown:
Type something out
Select that text
A bar of selections should appear. From these buttons you can: change the formatting, add the strikethrough effect, add bold or italics, make the text small, add a hyperlink, or choose from seven different tumblr colors.
This is pretty standard for posts on tumblr, and itโs a great way to get started. If you want, you can even stick with just simple ways to spice up your fics. (For example, adding emojis to your titles, or using the Lucille font.)
however, if you wanna go the extra mile, you can put in dividers, pictures, song cards, kaomojis, and special colorized text. Which Iโll show you how to do!
Dividers
Dividers are easy. All you have to do is look up #dividers on tumblr and youโll find lots of beautiful resources made by a lot of amazing people! Most are labeled free to use (f2u), some ask for credit, and others will ask you to use a specific tag. A good rule of thumb is to a) make sure youโre following their guidelines, or b) if they donโt have specific rules, just tag the creator in your fic unless they explicitly say not to. (All my dividers are f2u with no credit needed, but I do appreciate it when people tag me.)
To use the dividers, click on the divider you want to use in order to get the highest quality version. Then, double or left click on the image, then select โcopyโ. Paste the image into your Tumblr post, and youโre good to go!
also, a lot of people who make dividers are also fic writers, like @reginaphalangelobster, who makes both amazing web graphics and fics.
you can make your own dividers as well! I use Canva to make mine, and there are some pretty good tutorials on here about how to do that.
โKeep readingโ
side note, I recommend putting a โkeep readingโ on your fics so that they donโt take up peopleโs feeds. You donโt HAVE to do this, but itโs considered a common courtesy (I learned the hard way, lol.) All you have to do is line break (enter) until you see this:
from here you can add a photo, gif, link, audio clip, video, poll, or a โkeep readingโ. Click on that last one!
See? Cool, right? Anyways, letโs move on to:
Picture rolls
you might have seen these before in fics. Two or three pictures of the character or of aesthetic shots. I like using these a lot, especially because theyโre another easy way to spruce things up.
I like using Pinterest for this. Basically all you need to do is look for your character or the color youโre going for (I usually base my fic color off of my chosen song card. More on that later). Searches like โ[character] aestheticโ, โrelationship aestheticโ, or โgreen aestheticโ will help you out a lot. You only need about three pictures that you like.
from here, you can copy and paste your pictures into Tumblr. (Double or right click on the image, select โcopyโ, then paste or press control + v.) Alternatively, you can also download or save your pictures to your library, and upload them that way. Either works fine.
if you want them to be side by side, simply drag and drop them so that they are all in a horizontal line.
Sometimes Tumblr acts up and they can appear in their biggest versions (not side by side) when you post it or save the draft. I fix this by going into the edit mode again and dragging them so that theyโre how I want them to be. Then Iโll take a screenshot of them, crop it to the necessary margins, and put that in instead of the actual pictures.
if you want to add something for the pictures, you can say something like โimages sourced from Pinterest; credit to the original owners.โ Though itโs not always necessary.
Not happy with the color of the picture but still want to use it? You can use Canvaโs photo editor to tweak the colors of your picture how you like it.
Song cards
These are very easy to use. All you have to do for these is to copy the link to your chosen song on Spotify and paste it into Tumblr. It will automatically pop up into a song card with a background color.
This background color is usually taken from somewhere in the album cover, so if you have a song with a blue album cover, the background color will be blue. (You can also double check by looking at the lyrics, if the song has that available. The color for the lyrics page, if itโs working, will be the same as the card.)
if you want to include a specific song but the color wasnโt what you were going for, you can also hyperlink the song over text with the song and artist name. Example: Happy Birthday - Finn Wolfhard (I used a yt short link but you get the idea)
Kaomojis โโด๏ธห๏ฝกโ
Using kaomojis is also very simple. This seems to be a theme, doesnโt it? Anyway, there are plenty of ways to get your kaomojis. Which are these things, by the way. โโด๏ธห๏ฝกโ
One, you can look up #kaomoji or #kaomojis on tumblr. Lots of awesome resources here!
Two, there are websites for kaomojis and cute combinations that you can copy and paste. (Or even make your own!)
Kaomojis are probably the simplest way to make things pretty. Theyโre literally copy/paste symbols, and work on most formats.
Colorized text
At last, the moment weโve been waiting for! This is probably the hardest decoration technique of the ones that Iโve talked about, but donโt let that fool youโall of these are pretty easy!
First, you need a colorizing site. You can just look up โcolorize textโ and a few will pop up. Along with tutorials! Most tutorials will link resources, including color pickers and the like.
Next, type or paste in the text that you want to colorize in the relevant box.
Pick the colors that you want the text to be.
There are also drop-down menus on some colorizers that give you options for the gradient.
The text should pop up at the bottom as what looks like code. Because thatโs what it is! If the site gives you two boxes, one for your forum and the other for your website, choose the website version.
Copy that text, then open a new draft in Tumblr. (Not the post you are intending to use it in. Trust me for a sec!)
In your new draft, click the gear icon.
It will pull up a list of settings. Click on text editor.
From there, click the drop down and select HTML. Exit the settings menu.
Now you can paste your code into the draft!
Once you have your text in, click preview. Your text should be colorized now! From here, feel free to make the text bold, italic, bigger or smaller.
All you have to do now is copy/paste the preview text into your intended post, and you should be good to go!
I hope this helps you out with your fic endeavors, and Iโm so excited to see what you do! If you have any problems or questions, please feel free to ask or troubleshoot with me whenever! So much love,
