In one of the Death Note live action movies (I think it was Light Up the New World), a man changes his name after harboring guilt about past crimes and trying to atone (not even answering to that name). He's only killed after his new name gets put in the book, since he shed his old name.

Man wasn't trans, but if the logic applied to him, logic should apply to trans people too!

That means you can change your name or consider yourself to have a new name and the death note recognizes it.

the plus side being that, in comparison, the queer vibes of the tv adaptation very much shine through. Good Omens is a story that got gayer on purpose, and I for one highly appreciate this real life plot development! Queerify more stories, by all means

real talk, I adore it when minority fans identify with a story, and creators respond by embracing that. “this wasn’t our intention when creating this story, but clearly this interpretion resonates with many people and has value. I hadn’t thought of my characters like that, but I’m learning a lot from the ideas that are being put forward. the story wasn’t intended this way, but stories take on lives of their own and can be interpreted and retold in manifold ways. Ultimately, what do I know—I’m just the storyteller.” Creators create stories, but audiences respond to them, and I think it’s wonderful when storytellers use adaptations (and continuations, and sequels, and new seasons) as an opportunity to intentionally add and explore new elements simply because it resonates with the audience.

Stories transform as they are being built, and it’s just really damn nice to see more creators willing to let their stories transform into something a bit more inclusive, a bit more diverse, and ultimately a bit more colorful, than what the first draft had in mind.
