yo i’ve been getting a few random anons but just remember that if you ever think that i took a gif from you (honestly probably) or imagine (very unlikely), fic idea, etc, PLEASE message me OFF anon so we can talk about it!! i will always credit if that’s the case but more likely than not it’s just a misunderstanding. saying i “stole” an imagine that’s a very broad idea (like ‘imagine oliver being jealous’ or something) was probably not intentional and just due to the fact that we happened to have the same idea
Your decision to stop fighting crime gets thrown out the window when Flash faces Captain Cold and needs your help.
A/N: This part is very meh lol but I liked the last little scene. If you like this please read the rest of the Neuro series on my blog!
“You could be a little more understanding.” Barry said, taking a bite of his sandwich and trying not to look as angsty as he sounded.
Joe rolled his eyes. “Sorry I’m not that sympathetic that the woman who forced you to knock me out hasn’t shown her face in a few weeks.” He said, then took a breath. “Listen, Barr, I know that you think she’s—“
“I know she’s a hero, Joe. She’s helped me. She’s helped this city. I know that she’ll be back.” Barry replied. “And she told me she was sorry about what happened, I told you that. She got scared.”
“Then maybe it’s best that she went away.”
“Why?”
“Because if she’s the kind of person who let’s fear control her actions, she’s never really going to be able to save somebody. Do you get scared, Barry?”
“Yeah, sometimes.”
“But you don’t let it consume you. That’s the difference between you and her. She got scared and she hurt somebody.”
“She can learn.”
“It’s not your job to teach her.”
Barry got up. He and Joe had been arguing this point for too long. Ever since an incident a few weeks ago in which you used your mind control powers to force Barry to knock out Joe, you had vanished out of shame. Every night Barry had searched for you, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, you’d been having a fairly easy few weeks, keeping to yourself at night, eating snacks, and trying to ignore your mask and suit that seemed to stare at you from under the bed. It was better this way, you figured.
Your apartment was, by all standards, gorgeous. It was a luxury studio setup, located in a tall apartment in the arts district. Money hadn’t been much of a concern for you since your career took off, allowing you to live comfortably.
You were never meant to be a hero. You were neurotic, anxious, and too full of fear. It showed when you jumped to the conclusion that made Flash knock out his friend, who had posed no danger to you.
The Flash was unflinching in his actions. You flinched constantly.
Rummaging through the pantry, you tried deciding which candy to binge on tonight. Then maybe you’d watch a movie, or get some work done. The nights felt a lot longer when you didn’t spend them running down back alleys with the Flash.
Then there was the crash. A loud, booming crash that sounded too close for comfort. You braced yourself and ran to the window, opening it and sticking your head out, looking down the street. What shocked you was how freezing it was, even for November. Was that snow? No, down the street the building was covered in ice.
You squinted, looking for a red flash in the dark. There he was, but he seemed to be struggling. Closing the window, you turned up the t.v. and flipped to find a news channel.
The anchor was standing, her breath visible with each word that came out.
“This is Linda Park with Channel 8…I’m standing in the arts district, where a fight is going on between The Flash and a man who has been identified as Leonard Snart. Start was—“ She was cut off. The Flash had carried her and the cameraman out of the way in order to avoid the cold gun.
You took a breath in. Flash had told you about Captain Cold before, when you asked him about his weaknesses. This battle was going to be difficult. Sitting on the couch, you tried to gather your wits.
“He’s going to be fine.” You said, talking out loud. “He’s a pro at this. He’s fought him before. What am I going to do? Run in and be all ‘oh look i can make him do absolutely nothing! because he’s just going to FREEZE me.’ …I’m talking to myself. Oh. My God.” You grabbed a pillow and screamed into it, trying to get out some of the frustration that seemed to eat into your core.
It was an unconscious action.
Something kicked in that you couldn’t explain, but suddenly you dove under your bed, grabbed the suit, and put it on, and left out your usual escape—the fire escape.
Your thoughts sounded something like: “what am i doing what am i doing what am i doing this is crazy this is crazy this is crazy i’m going to die die die die die die.”
Human nature is to run away from danger.
Metahuman nature is to run toward it.
The suit kept your body fairly warm but your cheeks were pink as you ran down the street, deeper into the cold. You could hear Flash talking—he was doubled over on his side.
“You’re not getting away with this. Even if you kill me, there’s more heroes. You don’t have a chance.” Flash said, trying to get on his feet. Snart put his boot on Flash’s shoulder, forcing him down.
“Stop!” You screamed.
Cold turned around. Flash, though pained, mustered a smile.
“Neuro! Be careful.” He called out.
You gulped. Sure, you and Flash had fought villains together before, but usually Flash took care of things—you were more of the type to distract the bad guy. Your hands went to your knives. Maybe you could throw one to distract him, grab Flash, and bolt? No, you’d never get away.
Leonard Snart looked at you, back at the Flash, then to you again. He was smirking. “Are you two…a thing? Like, are you guys together?” He asked, stifling a laugh.
You dug your heels into the ground.
“So what’s your deal?” He asked, raising a brow. “You’re not fast or you would’ve been here sooner. So what is it?”
You put your hand on one of your knives.
“You throw stuff. Okay.” He said, taking off his goggles. “Has anybody ever told you that you’ve got beautiful eyes?”
No reply.
“Look—if, and by if, I mean when you try to throw one of these butter knives at me, I freeze him.” He said, pointing at The Flash, who was leaning against a car. “And you.”
Silence.
He stepped closer to you, looking directly into your eyes. “Not much of a talker, huh? Are you—Wait, are you scared right now?”
“Yes.” You said, taking a look at the Flash, who was standing up. Turning back to Snart, you continued. “But I’m here.”
Flash beamed. He knew you wouldn’t let him down.
“Get on the ground.” You said, staring directly at Leonard Snart, who immediately folded down.
“Okay. Mind control. Honestly, I should have seen this coming.” He said. “I still stand by what I said on your eyes, though.”
After Snart was taken away, Flash picked you up and brought you to the rooftop of your apartment (he did not know this).
“Thank you.” He said, putting a hand on your shoulder. “I’m glad that you came back.”
You shrugged. “I didn’t think I was going to, honestly. But when I saw that you were in danger…I couldn’t back away. It was like autopilot turned on—I mean, I was terrified, but I just had to do something. I couldn’t leave you behind.”
“Neuro, I know that you’re scared, but I’m here for you. You aren’t alone. Me, Cisco, Caitlin, and Harry can all help you. Getting scared and making a mistake doesn’t make you a bad person.”
Once again, like autopilot, you wrapped your arms around Flash and gave him a tight hug. He held you in his arms and gave you an affectionate squeeze.
“Thank you.” You said, not letting go. Even though you were standing on the roof of your apartment building, you had never felt more at home.
YOUTUBE BILL NYE OMG??? Y'all imagine all the Flash themed bowties Barry would get for that express purpose
omg yes
little lightning bolt bowties
and cisco would be SO IN on the channel and make Barry a bunch of bowties and then try to do such hardcore experiments while barry’s like ‘cisco please let’s teach about the fundamentals of lasers’ while cisco is like “DID YOU SAY MAKE A GIANT LASER BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT I DID”
*rolls in and sticks leg up into the air* imagine if a metahuman friend of Barry's who could manipulate electronics played the Time Warp on all speakers every time Barry ran through the door (stop messing with the timeline, Barry)
