No clue how true this is BUT lets operate on the idea that its real: you absolutely SHOULD be aware of tactics used to get customers to shop in manipulated ways.

Ive worked for companies before that kept tactics like this hidden, and it pisses me off

Wait, wait, wait. I have come this far in the reblog chain of this post and found yours. Tell me the tactics and the companies. Screw the NDA. This is now public information they can no longer keep hidden. What tactics did they use?

I already know about the manipulation of fast food restaurants and their color palletes, a lot of what Disney does to manipulate you, and I previously worked at Walmart and know that they make everything loud, uncomfortable, and disorienting so you don't remember what you're there for even though you have a list in the hopes you buy something (or multiple things) you don't need.

And that us following you around for "theft protection" when our managers (sometimes racially profiling you, sometimes just not liking you and wanting you out of the store as quick as possible but its mostly a tactic to get you to buy something you don't need) tell us to is also part of the disorientation tactics.

Pro tip, wear headphones or just act deaf so they will stop bothering you. It was rare that our store actually found someone stealing which was only two times in the entire year that I worked there. Some areas obviously have higher crime rates, but most of the time it all comes down to profiling.

If you're obviously well off (upper middle class but not rich because no rich person shops at Walmart since they can't stand us), they won't do anything. They already know a lot of information about you the moment you walk in like your income, if you have kids even if they're not currently with you, your age demographic, interests, etc. . But most just think I'm crazy. Thier cameras are nicer than you think. They make them look shitty and average on purpose.

Game companies hate emulation, but none of them seem to understand that a lot of us would just buy ROMs from them directly if we could. I don't want a fifth remake of Final Fantasy IV, I want to pay five bucks for the 3MB file you already made bank with thirty years ago. Nobody who wants to play something for the purpose of retro gaming is going to consider a $40 remake as the alternative option, and we're certainly not going to let the original dissappear. They're crying about opportunity cost for a product they're not even selling.

op i know you're probably talking about like, video games, etc, but this is also critical for research science - my lab has so much abandonware, either because the company's out of business, or the company decided to not maintain it, and it's a fucking nightmare. we have two windows 95 computers that are CRITICAL for performing experiments/data analysis because the software needed is abandonware. one of the main roles for a guy in my lab is to maintain these little dinosaurs because if they go out, we lose access to ~20 years of raw data for research. part of why is that these companies also make their own file types, and make it difficult-to-impossible to convert those file types without their specific software. by habit, i convert all research files to more generic versions (txt, pdf, tif, etc) so that i minimize risk of losing my shit, but some stuff can't be converted.

for example, we have a microscope that is perfectly functional, good microscope, but its software is abandonware because the company refused to maintain it. the company is still in business, still makes essentially the exact same software, but they made all of the old tech incompatible with new software to force people to buy the new microscope tech. it would cost a quarter million dollars to replace this microscope. this perfectly good microscope.

so like, i know a lot of people look at the original post here and go "well op just wants old video games to play" (which is valid! games companies should not be able to push shit to abandonware and then close it off) but also this is critical for like. biomedical research. if y'all had any idea how much basic infrastructure built on science relies on shit that is technically abandonware, you would probably be horrified.

1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else

2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people's symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.

I cannot even explain how ANGRY I am at this.

My nephew is very allergic to eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame. Last year my sister discovered all hot dogs and hamburger buns now contain sesame. Not "may contain", but listed in the ingredients. This year basically every brand of sliced bread also now contains sesame, making it very difficult to find bread items he can eat.

They're just adding it to their products, so they can just list it as an ingredient and not bother with worrying about cross contamination. And they aren't even bothering with telling anyone. Capitalism is going to kill us all.
