I don’t think people understand the magnitude of this quote. The sheer romantic weight of it comes from the fact that Clark’s literally physically invulnerable, a being of immense power who can bring the world to its knees if he wanted to. Yet, he admits to an emotional fragility so deep that the absence of Lois's love would render his existence unbearable. We’ve seen this demonstrated in Pandora. He cuts everyone out of his life that reminded him of her simply because what was the point of any of this if she is not there. He loses hope, makes all the wrong choices & brings about a Zod apocalypse. He’s a hollow shell until she comes back. It shows that his greatest strength is meaningless without her, his entire existence hinges on the love of one human woman. He's not just saying he'd be heartbroken; he's saying his entire world would be unlivable. This elevates Lois beyond a girlfriend or even a soulmate – she is the very foundation and meaning of his existence. For someone who can travel the world within seconds, his universe shrinks to encompass her love. The same theme echos throughout S9 & S10. “I died when you left.” “I love your daughter and I don't want a day to go by where I'm not with her.” “He can’t do this without you.” He says the same quote essentially, just worded differently each time. Clark's confession strips away his god-like facade and reveals a man so utterly and completely devoted to one woman that her love is the very breath of his existence. It's a declaration of absolute dependence, not of weakness, but of profound, unwavering love. People swarm to quotes like “ You are the one” or “ You are the love of my life” but really it’s these quotes that takes the cake, it amplifies his love for her to a cosmic scale, fitting for someone who is not of this world.

Can I just say that the hand-grabbing thing in Rabid has to be one of the most creatively written relationship moments in the history of this show. From the beginning Lois-punching-Clark’s-shoulder had been a trademark of their friendship. It was something only Lois did and it was their thing. Clark knew what it signified. It was Lois’s defense mechanism to keep their relationship within the boundaries of friendship, which she knew that they were on the brink of crossing. And he knew all that and then he just grabbed her hand and let her know what she was doing and that he wasn’t going to let her run away because he wanted their friendship to grow into something more.

That one moment, the change in their relationship, right after he put Lana’s picture away with a smile on his face, that’s where it all changed. From friends to lovers and I think this one moment was perfect.
