Carlisle: Do you guys ever cry because you’re not British?
Garrett: Tears of joy.
Adam was starting to worry.
There were way too many of them in town now for him to write off as just a small gathering of some mythical creatures. It was starting to look like some sort of invasion, and Adam was worried that he was in the center of it. Had he been found out? Were they all coming to be witnesses for the defence when they took him out? He kept trying to tell himself he was just being paranoid but was he though?
He was getting footage of one of these creatures and decided that was enough for the day when someone ran into him and knocked the camera out of his hands. Adam cringed at the sound of clattering, quickly kneeling to pick up his baby. “Shit,” he groaned, noticing the display on the side had almost completely broken off, only hanging on by a chord.
He was thinking about his current bank account and how much repairing it would cost when someone approached him.
Garrett, as was his usual habit, had been wandering. This little town was quickly becoming boring, even if he had appreciated visiting old friends. The only thing still of interest were the number of vamps who had been struck by the same urge to visit.
So, it wasn’t that surprising that he latched onto something even mildly interesting. A human was trying to be stealthy - as if they could be anything but loud with their pounding hearts and heavy breathing and rushing blood - and was taking a video of some nomad. Now, why would he do that?
Normally, their kind were either too dazzled by the gorgeous looking creatures or too terrified by the strange, frightening auras of said creatures. They weren’t usually curious, so yeah, it made Garrett curious in turn.
“What a douchebag.” he drawled, unable to help himself but to take the opportunity to finally speak to the kid. “Didn’t even apologize.” he tsked, dragging his eyes, bloody as any other vampire, down to the human’s eyes, “You good?”
buiocasa:
Kate reared back, as if intending to strike again, her jaw a tight line of displeasure. Her meal fell from her grasp, with a dull thud, back to earth, and the doe lay in lifeless in the dirt between them. The pair of vampires stared at each other for a while, red on yellow. Sunset meeting sunrise in a vivid and shocking paring of ideals.
“You never know-” Kate eventually uttered “-the veggie life might suit you.”
She rose then, slowly, as if not to trigger some sort of ancient, vampire right to strike at the slower opponent. Kate was not a tall woman, far from it, but the wild cut of her long pale hair, loose and long about her thin shoulders, and the splatter of red blood on her thin mouth, was a striking sight to behold. She stood like a wild Venus de milo in the shrubs.
“-Nah-” the vampire waved her hand in the air sloppily “-Cousins.” Kate grinned, flashing warm and blood stained teeth. “-on my mothers side.” She eyed the vampire, unable to place him among Carlisle’s countless friends. He was much taller than her, dark hair hanging loose around terrible red eyes. Yet he was handsome, all long lines and easy smiles Kate felt herself tense up when he smiled at her, swallowing thickly despite the recent feeding.
“-What’s your name?” she asked, brushing stray blonde strands away from her eyes “-I’m kate.” she inadvertently added, too quickly for it to be anything less than a ploy to keep him in her company. To rectify it, Kate stepped forward and offered a bejewelled silver hand “-Hey.”
Garrett was just fine having a staring contest with her, willing to sit her and drink in her appearance indefinitely, even if he didn’t necessarily want to drink her doe. When she finally spoke, he tilted his head, nose crinkling. “I don’t know about that. I can smell the difference from here. Doesn’t seem nearly as appetizing.”
God, but she was attractive. He had the right of it, her connection to Carlisle, but that was only distantly noted, because she had gone and smiled at him. It was somehow, someway even prettier than her snarl. Not by much, mind you, but it was.
Luckily, he hadn’t lived this long by being unobservant, and it was quite obvious to him that he was also having some sort of effect on her, much to his delight. That made it rather difficult to smother his smirk, though he thought he managed to do so by the time he dropped his arms and stepped forward to shake her hand. “Garrett.”
Then, it seemed as if his mouth betrayed him, acting without the consent of his mind, because he continued speaking, “Maybe I should try your animal diet. I haven’t fed in awhile and since I’m here...you might need to show me the ropes though. Don’t know all the best delicacies, after all.” As if his still quite red eyes didn’t make him out as a liar immediately. Sure, he would have probably had to scrounge up some artery to suck on within the next week, but there was no rush. He had no excuse for his words other than his own blatant interest in keeping her around for awhile longer.
It wasn’t as if he actually wanted to try animal blood. Sure, the curiosity had struck him once or twice before, but he’d grown used to ignoring some of the more outlandish things his inquisitive mind desired. And going vegetarian, even temporarily, had always been one of those outlandish things. Garrett had really gone and betrayed his usual drinking standards just for a pretty face, hadn’t he? For Kate. Pretty, pretty Kate.
