I’ve been playing so much sudoku. You have no idea how much sudoku I’m playing. Every time I close my eyes I see the grid. god I really wish people weren't so fucking judgmental and cruel towards diabetic people who still eat a lot of sugar. partially because it's not their business, and because how much they clearly don't understand how diabetes works.

In case you didn't know, diabetes is when, for whatever reason, your body doesn't have enough insulin. Both types of diabetes can be caused by many things- genetics are the largest deciding factor, but it can also be influenced by things like autoimmune and diseases stress (and things that cause stress, like poverty or being a minority). It is a myth that you can give yourself diabetes by eating sugar, and a myth that you can stop it by dieting.

Type 1 happens when your body can't make enough/any insulin, and type two happens when your cells become insulin resistant and there isn't enough going around.

But what is insulin, and what does it do? Insulin is a hormone your body produces to aid in absorbing glucose (sugar) in your blood, allowing it to enter your cells and provide energy needed to live. This means that when there is no insulin, or insulin resistance is high enough, your cells can't absorb glucose. This is essentially the same as starving, because your cells aren't getting any energy. This causes not just a blood glucose to rise (which itself can cause damage to your body), but also makes you body slam the hunger button and craving for sugar- because it wants energy as fast as possible. Going through this repeatedly (a constant occurrence for many diabetics) is also super stressful on the body, and prompts it to want to gain weight as a survival strategy against starving.

So yeah no shit diabetic people often crave sugar and are often fat- their body is desperately trying to make sure they survive ✌️

I feel like we don’t talk enough about how having chronic illness and/or chronic pain makes you irritable. It makes you grumpy. It can make you a not very fun person to be around.

We don’t talk enough about the ugly sides of chronic illness/pain. The parts where you feel like a bad person not because of the pain in of itself but because everyone else thinks you are pushing them away. The times when you don’t bear it like a saint and the roughest edges of your personality come out. Where maybe you do hurt other people’s feelings. Its a complicated side of the experience thats resists an easy answer.

#people really can’t comprehend what it feels like to be in pain all the time #if you felt like I felt you’d be grumpy too #I try not to take it out on anyone but sometimes. it’s hard. I can’t even be nice to myself let alone to the outside world #thankfully my friends are very understanding and I love them sm

Don't understand why more people don't appreciate programming as a creative artform. It's one of my most self-indulgent admissions but programming an environment is like playing at being a God to me. I get to create swarms of little attendant automatons like biblical angels that contribute to the mechanism of the bespoke ecosystem I am crafting, and they all turn together in perfect harmony. If I could find a way to represent the interaction of data structures visually I could put this shit in a museum as a whirling sculpture that plays its own hand-shaped swarm ecology.

i've had people treat me visibly different after hearing my voice or seeing my face as if i'm some sort of predator or interloper. this attitude towards amab trans people especially nonbinary people really paints a picture of what the lgbt community thinks of gender in general
