Only Day 10 of this President...
It's been 10 days. First can we momentarily agree that this past week and a half have felt like 2 months. It's only been 10 DAYS! I'm tired. Second please notice and retain the fact that the title does say "this President", out of the sheer fact that it's the truth but it isn't MY truth. I do not respect the man with this title so he isn't my president.
Now that that's out of the way. Hi, how are you? How are you coping knowing that the leader of the supposed free world is absolutely bonkers and loco for Loco Puffs (points if you know where that's from)? Me...I'm doing okay. My emotions are on a constant rotation of anger, frustration, motivation, sadness and exhaustion. The whirlwind of this 45th presidency is the roller-coaster ride I could have never anticipated but buckle your fucking seatbelts.
If you're living under a rock (voluntarily or not) then you are most likely aware of the executive orders that have been placed since inauguration day. The latest a ban on immigrants from a list of seven countries.. *insert facepalm gif here*
May I remind anyone reading this that the plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty in this wonderful city of ours reads the following:
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
This was written by a lovely lady named Emma in 1883. America....we are SO better than this. It may seem like the mountain of social issues this country has keeps getting bigger and bigger: we have yet to solve police brutality, racial injustices, rising hate crimes, Standing Rock & #NoDAPL, Flint water, healthcare, the list goes on. What we should all realize it that it has ONLY BEEN 10 DAYS OF THIS MAN AND HIS POLICIES ESSENTIALLY SHITTING ON OUR CONSTITUTION.
I've felt since Ferguson that a revolution was brewing and now I see it in front of my eyes. The power of one man and many like him has turned us on our ear. It has shown us a clear reflection from the broken mirror of those who hold it. Quite simply, we are America and it's time we take it back. No one holds power unless the people allow you to have it. The majority did not choose him, but a 3 million difference still makes me uncomfortable. We've arrived at this problem of a president together and we must solve it all together.
Do I wish this was just an extended episode of Scandal & I'm going to wake up soon to find that we let Barack pull an FDR? Yes, of course I do. But in the words of Shaun King:
DO NOT LET UP. Not on Standing Rock. Not on immigration and refugees. Not on police brutality or torture or human rights.
Do not let up on ANYTHING.
We SEE the difference that can happen when angry people channel their emotions into change. I refuse to go down without a fight. As previously mentioned I have a lot of emotions going on right now and will share them when I feel.
