It’s a privilege to be heartbroken by the system for the first time at age 30. So many people — those in the prison system, those with undocumented American relatives, those who are trans, who are queer, who are people of color, who are Muslim, who are trying to prosecute their abusers — have felt the crushing failure of the system over and over again.
nicely put, Lena Dunham.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

accurate. someone save me from myself.
Steven turned on the Cleveland/Blue Jays baseball game (American League Championship, I've since learned 😂) for the second time in as many nights and both times I've said, "oh, how are the cubs doing tonight?" baseball logos/colors are CLEARLY hard.
me: do you think I can pull off the adidas superstars?
Steven: probably. (Quick change of heart 😂) oh, yeah. duh.
we will be eurotripping in THREE WEEKS (bring on the fish and chips, high tea, and champs, London and Paris). I'm nothing if not prepared (ha! could use a hotel rec for Paris) so I've been working on a few new things for my wardrobe: black leggings, black tops, and am debating another black pair of Sam Edelmans also. today I purchased a black wool hat and am also debating adidas superstars. can I pull off the last two? am I too old for superstars since I had them in 9th grade? this whole trend coming back around thing is really making me feel old.
steven: did you confirm the cleaners?
me: yea, last night. lucky for us I have the Amex memorized so I didn't even have to go downstairs for my bag!
steven: (groaning yet not at all surprised) OH GOD
unrelated x5
got the maddest anxiety tonight, the kind that riles you up the the point of not focusing on anything, lets you talk yourself down to an almost comfortable state, and then sneaks back in with a single tiny thought to start the loop all over again. • I prepped meals Sunday, and my work graciously decided to cater in all week because of how hard the team was working. I feel guilty because this is not the hardest of weeks for me, but it's interesting because my busy period tends to peak the exact opposite of the rest of the team. • The most unrelated: let's chat about slow cooker meals. If your recipe requires I do ANY OTHER COOKING to prep the meal, then no. That is 100% not how a slow cooker works and I will not entertain it. • I got a haircut and not literally one person noticed. • We will be on HOLIDAY in exactly 3 weeks and 2 days, with 9 whole days to eat, drink, and play around London and Paris. we've only just booked our London AirBnB, and still need a place in Paris, though we are likely going to get a hotel. I need any and all of your recommendations.
we have a house full of refugees at the moment. my parents and Steven's, along with his nephew are sleeping here. in the past 48 hours, we had a 3 hour power outage, a minor kitchen fire in which I was NOT heroic and instead just started yelling and pointing (paper towels and candles are not a good mix, nor do they just go out on their own, but my father-in-law handled it quickly), and now we're almost out of booze. my parents got tired of sleeping on the air mattress but since they aren't getting back to Savannah anytime soon (we're thinking Monday), he went and bought a mattress. all that is to say our people are safe and sound, it appears their homes are safe and sound (albeit powerless and unable to get to), and we have packed in a LOT of quality time.
