I had the pleasure of meeting Caio Terra at a seminar today in Austin, TX. He showed lots of great technique on taking the back, had a q&a section, and then opened it up to live roll with him or his beast purple belt. This is the first time I've been to a seminar where the person teaching is willing to wrestle everyone in attendance. Reminded me of those old school Rickson Gracie vids I'll see on YouTube from the early 90's. I felt bad b/c I kneed Caio in the mouth when we were rolling- we stopped for a second, He said it was ok. About 20 seconds later he elbowed me in the face on accident and we stopped again, I was good- then shortly after that the round ended. I didn't feel like as much of a spaz after I caught the elbow lol. It was cool to see his game live in 3D. Overall, I would definitely recommend making it out to the seminar if Caio comes to your town! Also, check out how I'm stylin' and profilin' in my @rollblissgi. I've been joking with my friends about how my life is like one long vacation. I still work, but my job is fun, I like the people I see everyday, and I try to keep in mind that 80 percent of the results come from 20 percent of the work. I'm telling myself focus on being effective- not just efficient, bc it's possible to be efficient at a lot of stuff that doesn't really matter. So instead of checking my email or Facebook for the 20th time today, telling myself I'm busy when I don't have to be... I'm here, at the river :). #vacationlife

This was a cool experience for me! I was promoted to brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu last night at the @cleberbjjmma seminar. I didn't know it would be at the seminar, but I tell myself to focus on my training and the things I can control daily, and the promotions will take care of themselves. I'm not a huge history buff, but I have recently been taking an interest in Abraham Lincoln and read a good book about him recommended by one of my training partners here at Dojo Kyle, Joe Ochoa. When we look back on Lincoln we remember him for his successes, but before there was success there was persistence in the face of many adversities. Here is a summary of his path to the presidency: 1831- Failed in business 1832- Defeated for legislature 1833- Failed in business again 1834- Elected to legislature 1835- Sweetheart died 1836- Had a nervous breakdown 1838- Defeated for speaker 1840- Defeated for elector 1843- Defeated for congressional nomination 1846- Elected to Congress 1848- Defeated for Congress 1855- Defeated for Senate 1856- Defeated for Vice President 1859- Defeated for Senate 1860- Elected President of the USA I wonder what the world would be like today if he would've called it quits in 1832? I'm a big #bjj fanboy, so it was cool for me to get to meet Carlos Machado ! Super friendly guy. He was standing on the mats watching a match at his tournament and this lady started yelling at him, "hey! Down in front! Down in front! Guy in the black shirt, MOVE!" He didn't hear her so she wanted me to tell him, but I told her, "man, it's his tournament. I'm not going to bug him about where he's standing." She finally got his attention and he apologized and sat down on the mat. It was funny to me bc the machados are a big deal in the art, but if you don't train- they're just some dudes who are blocking your view lol

Finished 1st at the Naturally Fit Grappling Games. It was a good time and I liked that they let the upper belts compete first instead of sitting around for 5 hrs like other tournaments I've been to!
