listening to chess the musical is great bc it's oops all bangers, but some of them are Clearly Written By ABBA.

i know him so well is a breathtaking and devastating ballad that also would not feel out of place in mamma mia, and i think that's beautiful

i love how sweeney todd has all this lyrical and musical foreshadowing and you only ever realise once it's already too late. like take the beggar woman. in literally her first appearance she seems to recognize sweeney. her alms alms line is the same step as sweeney singing about lucy in epiphany. the same theme plays when she dies, but you really only realise that afterwards. honestly i think it kind of sums up a lot of the tragedy in the musical. once we meet the characters, it's already too late for them

During Act 2 of chess (and partly act 1) One of the major plot points in some productions of Chess is that Anatoly has kid(s), and Freddie calls him out on it, and he deserves every fucking right to.

because he had dealt with his father leaving him when he was 12 and look how he turned out, he has firsthand experience with how this can affect people and I think it's very important to speak out about something that is of similar behavior. Sure, to a lesser degree, but it is still the same behavior nonetheless.

To be clear I do not hate Anatoly, but to be fair Freddie is a dick too, in his own ways, I could make an entire post about his problems but I don't want to.
