I am currently preparing a very rare and interesting pathological specimen: the amputated leg of a d.og with implant site osteosarcoma. He had a torn ACL repaired several years ago with a metal plate, but then developed the extremely rare side effect of bone cancer at the site. The leg was amputated at the clinic where I work, and I am preparing it to articulate and display as a teaching specimen. This is the tibia.
Had a good day! Picked up a gallon of acetone to dump this lot of skulls in (second photo) to loosen up deep grease before moving them back to the degreasing setup. While they’re cycled out into the acetone, the mini horse is in the degrease tub taking her turn. A little hard to accommodate her since she’s a bit of a larger skull, but I’m hoping to have her done by or before summer.
The gray fox in this lot seems to of had some very bad tooth problems- some teeth are naturally ground down to the gum line and they naturally lost a lot of teeth. I’ll investigate further after they’re done and put back together.
Finished osprey. He is now on display in SUNY Cobleskill’s Ornithology classroom. Birds aren’t my area of expertise and he wasn’t in the best of condition, but I’m so proud of him!
Andres Rodriguez shot this creature dead on January 1st, 1986, in Sinaloa, Mexico out of fear that the animal would attack him. Rodriguez expected the big cat to be either a puma or a jaguar - the two large cat species in Mexico. He brought the body to a naturalist who examined it. The creature was the color of a puma, yes, but the limbs are too long and the body is too slim. This naturalist claimed that the cat is Mexico’s legendary large cat - the Onza. The Onza has been reported for centuries as a tawny colored cat with oddly long limbs.
The body was sent to a lab and was subject to many tests that revealed that the feline was not just a malnourished puma - in fact, it had a perfect amount of body fat. It was not a crossbreed of two different species either. But the genetic tests did tell that it had no genetic difference from a normal puma. It is thought that the Onza is just a puma with a slight appearance change from normal.
Getting to help stitch up a cheetah @ethicaltaxidermy is mounting for the Booth Museum! This cheetah died of abscess in her spine and jaw back in 1980, and has been sitting in a barrel in the museum ever since. Her skin is tough and brittle, as she is been in formaldehyde for 30 years - but she is looking good. So very soft too.
Twisting and winding roads are always better paved in glitter. Busy week ahead! DM for custom bone or skull (decor) requests. Let’s make some magic.
In October 2016, I was commissioned to make bone crowns for a Halloween Prom! These are the pieces I came up with. Raccoon bones, coyote teeth, amethyst, and smokey quartz. The Prom makes donations to the New England Organ back, and will become an annual event. Originally, the King and Queen were going to take these home at the end of the night. Buuut the organizers loved them so much, they want to use them each year! The king and queen get to wear these until they’re ready to go home, then they trade them in for plastic ones before they leave.
Did I mention they glow in the dark? Because they glow in the dark. I’ve been unable to get a glow photo, but there are accents painted along various points, as well as all the teeth.
Opossum man w/progress pics! My forms always look like weird little aliens before I get the skin on lol
He looks so fantastic!

Something I never noticed about caribou is how absolutely dense their coat is. I spent a good hour with a high powered blower trying to dry this guy and he was still damp after! They are certainly built to handle to cold.
European raccoon dog.
Picked up what I’ve identified as a Malayan porcupine skeleton at a flea market! Just need to finish articulating it.
