Most corporate social media accounts use memes to try and appear hip with the kids so they’ll buy their product but the Sparknotes twitter account is clearly just run by a literature geek who was told they could make memes about old books and is having the time of their life doing just that

just to be clear, the fact that music was nominated for a golden globe is absolutely disgusting. every single (adult) involved in that gross, ableist movie should be sickened by themselves.

for those of you who don't know, music (2021) is a movie being directed by sia about a nonverable autistic girl. not only does it not include any actually autistic people in the movie itself but it also only took advice from autism speaks which is looked at as a hate group by the majority of the autistic community. leaked scenes have also shown the movie glorifying prone restraints which are incredibly dangerous and have resulted in major injuries and even death to disabled people as recently as last year.

autistic people just like me have been incredibly outspoken about how harmful this movie is but the allistic have been mostly silent. we are already seeing reviews calling this movie 'inspiring' and important' and it's absolutely horrific! we need your help calling this out. please stand with us and call out this disgusting display of disrespect to autistic folks.

The ending of the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special was shit and I'm so angry

The ending of the series is perfect. They closed all the emotional arcs without it feeling like everything was too neat and it felt satisfying. The special was great but then they end it like that, it's left a massive emotional arc hanging and if they don't do a series to close it I'm going to think less of then as writers.

Like, i think they were trying to mirror the Nessa/smithy/Dave situation at the end of the show but it didn't work. In that situation we knew specifically that nessa and Smithy had feelings for each other and Nessa didn't love Dave and the beauty of it wasn't that smithy confessed his love and Nessa left Dave for him but that he told her what she needed to hear, that she shouldn't marry Dave just because he asked. It showed that smithy understood Nessa and was putting her first and so it kind of worked to tie up their emotional arcs (smithy showed maturity and emotional vulnerability which he hasn't before in that way and it allowed Nessa to fully be herself in a way she'd lost) though we didn't know how or if they were going to function together as a couple.

This felt like a reversal of that. I was entirely unconvinced that smithy cares about Nessa as more than a friend. Yes, they hook up, but sex doesn't mean they're in love for fuck sake. I never got a "he's secretly pinning for Nessa but knows he can't have her" vibe. He seemed to genuinely like Sonia and the relationship was obviously doomed because of family and class things but neesa asking smithy to marry her didn't feel like Nessa speaking an emotional truth that smithy needed to hear about himself but speaking her own truth for her own reasons. Contrast Smithy saying "you don't have to marry me but marrying him would be a mistake so don't do it" to Nessa's "marrying her would be a mistake so marry me". It lacks that emotional weight of wanting what was best for the other person. I don't know if there's a scene on a cutting room floor somewhere where smithy says he loves Nessa but needs her to be able to say that to him, in which case the ending would work, but as it is i really feel like smithy moved on and i don't know what he's going to say to Nessa and why but I'm not convinced he's going to say yes because he loves her and that's what it's need to complete that emotional arc they set up.

So, basically, it went in to a show that was neatly ended and threw a massive emotional spanner in the works for no good reason. All i needed was for it to end on "and it was all going to be okay", not a cliffhanger that, as far as we know, will never be resolved. It they announce a new season tomorrow then fair play, if not it's bad writing.
