Perhaps Ed could be likened to an excited dog━ A LARGE ONE like a labrador━ or a Great Dane with legs and arms that sometimes seemed too long for his body. Graceless but full of good intention. He flopped himself down quickly in the chair BESIDE OSWALD, big grin in place. He knew Oswald didn’t care much for his riddles but he was one of the few people he could at least get to humour them here and there and that was ALRIGHT WITH ED.
❝ Because he had noBODY to go with. ❞ he answered and in the start it may have seemed teasing of Ed, given the fact that he knew Oswald was, LIKE THE SKELETON in his riddle, without a dance partner until he continued. ❝ so- in order to remedy this- I was wondering if.. you would… like to attend the dance with me. ❞
Well there it was. The question was asked. It was only then that THE NERVES hit him, though Ed couldn’t fathom why. Maybe it was because he had gotten himself so excited to solve their mutual problem he realised he went ON AHEAD and asked Oswald to the dance right in the middle of the school cafeteria. Oh boy.
𝔸t first Oswald snorted in amusement at the pun, what followed in the answer created an overwhelming feeling a terror in him. Paler than usual and rendered speechless the possibilities of what this was meant. Did Edward mean as friends or as something more? Was this the part where Barbara comes to reveal some embarrassing prank on him? Why in front of people? What if someone heard? Though it was unlikely, he couldn’t help but feel like there was a spotlight on him. Every conversation was pointing out his leg jittering and flaws.
Regaining himself from the negative thoughts back to the moment before him, he realized how he has been frowning the whole time while just staring at Edward like a fish.
Painfully, he jittered his words out. “I- You want to go to the dance? With me?”
