fairly certain she’s never seen the boy before, ( and between yearbook and the newspaper she knows most at the school, at least by face ) curiosity gets the better of her and she approaches. ❛ it is. were you thinking of enrolling? ❜ once upon a time the role of welcoming committee would have been filled by liz, but since she was gone betty had been trying to help fill the void left behind. big shoes to fill. ❛ if you are i’d be happy to show you around. ❜ literature club had been cancelled -- half of them out sick for which betty was totally blaming rick -- which meant she was free for the afternoon. besides the guy seemed, not lost exactly, maybe lonely? betty wasn’t entirely sure but there was something about him that made her want to help.

A LOOK OF EUPHORIA painted on almost porcelain skin at betty’s offer . her days of consuming cafeteria food was finished ! / FOR NOW , at least . the bakery , a seemingly satisfactory resting place for them after a week of rapid piling of both home & schoolwork . a free arm draped around betty as the bell rung noisily , announcing dismissal . ’ I could never turn something like that down . count me in . ’ the gates blew out a stream of midtown high students , colliding shoulders & vexing meins were exchanged . the day turned a little dimmer , no trace of the blooming spring tide she had woken up to . ’ I took my motorbike today . is it alright if we rode that to the bakery ? we could always take a cab . ’
the end of day rush to leave is always chaotic, a tightly packed flood of teenagers with betty just along for the ride as gwen guides her, arm tucked tight to her chest to protect her injured wrist. caught off guard by the question, betty gives a nod. ❛ yeah. sure, that’s fine. ❜ she chokes down a nervous laugh. ❛ i mean it’s safe right? ❜ in truth she’d never ridden a motorcycle before. it’s new york, if you wanted to get somewhere you either just walk or hop on the subway. still, she’s a little curious what it’s like. and she's technically following her dad’s order not to ride on a motorbike with a boy. what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, he has enough to deal with worrying about her mom.

it takes a moment for mj to register that there are words — words thrown at her . so she glances up slowly , and , upon realising who it is , gives out a lazy smile , drunk . ❝ ‘sup , brant . ❞ betty and her weren’t really close , but … she seems cool . like , very organised and humble sort of cool . maybe there’s more to her than those adjectives , but mj isn’t sure . she’s sure if she’s any sober , she can recall more facts . but oh well . mj sits up , dangle her cup to measure the amount in it but realises it’s empty . what was betty saying again ? ❝ hey , so . rick from the literature club ? cheated on rose ronalds . saw him makin’ out with a girl from — different school ? before , uh . before they went upstairs . he’s an asshole . ❞
taking the empty cup from the other girls hand and placing it next to her own, betty can’t help but chuckle at her drunken ramblings. between michelle’s natural observational skills and betty’s own ( perhaps sometimes invasive ) sense of curiosity, she doubted anything happened at midtown without at least one of them finding out. in fact, she’d been meaning to ask if michelle wanted to join the school newspaper, she just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. it wasn’t as if the two of them just, hung out. ❛ i heard. total dick move. shelley mcdonald apparently saw too and told rose. when she found out she made a huge scene out back and then took off in tears. ❜ thankfully shelley had gone after her to calm her down so betty wasn’t too concerned. monday would definitely be interesting. ❛ if i had to guess rick is going to be in for some major hurting when she gets to him. she was pissed. ❜
it doesn’t look like michelle is going to be moving anytime soon so betty jumps to her feet, shooting michelle a concerned look. ❛ wait right there okay? i’m just going to run and grab you a bottle of water from the kitchen. i’ll be right back. ❜
