I just had a vague idea for a K-pop Demon Hunters au.

All Hunters are part demon. It's a requirement of the position. Being a hunter helps limit Gwi-ma's influence over you and can slow or even stop the transformation from human into full demon. I don't have it fully mapped out, but I liked the idea of angsty requirements for magic and I think you could make something out of the idea of people filled with such shame and hunger for connection or purpose that they reach out and devour the souls of others, and them using that dangerous aspect of themselves to help and defend others.

Also could be a reason to have the girls understand their enemies more. In the movie they seemed to know just enough to kill them and little more, and while that makes sense I like my supernatural hunters to know their prey.

Also also you have a lot of fun potential for toxic coping mechanisms between various generations of hunters of 'checking in' on each other in a way that could be healthy, but is also terrifying because if you become too far gone you go from part of the team to just another demon that needs to be put down.

i think the dyers might be like the lukas’s or the fairchild’s in tma. we know that a dyer kid was experimented on and honestly? if you’re doing experiments related to creepy things you would try to get a kid from one of the families dedicated to the Source of the Creepy Things™️

luke is definitely suspicious with all of those water and deep connections (also idk if it was on purpose because jonathan sims is silly about names but luke and lukas are like a syllable away from each other) and i think alice knows more than she’s letting on, which could both be explained by them coming from a line of people highly experienced in the supernatural elements of their world.

additionally, this can give insight into how alice ended up working there and why she’s so odd about looking further into anything because it’s all tied to her own life. the fact that we know about her brother but haven’t heard a word about any parents is a bit suspicious imo

also a slightly unrelated note, i’m really interested in the gwen bouchard business and what role that last name plays in this universe. the dynamic between alice and gwen would be deepened by some sort of connection between their last names, like both of their families being powers under opposing entities or something.

i think i would need to sit down with a full on notebook and colored pens note situation to draw many more connections but this is what i got for now

Is it a coincidence that Alice’s brother’s band starts getting noticed and ‘watched’ more ever since Alice became the target of ‘something’?

Alice is either:

•in on the dark happenings of the world because she’s constantly deflecting and redirecting the conversation whenever someone brings up the supernatural

• a true skeptic who’s going to DIE because she’s being followed by the monster in the Magnus Institute ruins and doesn’t know it

I will add that Alice got a security report about Sam. Sure she said it was due to the system being messed up and not sending info to the correct people but maybe Alice is a bit more then just the longest working low rung employee.

See, that's even more ridiculous, because it doesn't just have a zone of visibility – terrain it's passed through stays revealed. If we accept the abstraction that revealed terrain represents knowledge possessed by your side's commanders as a result of intel reports, this frames an implicit narrative in which the sheep drew a map.

Isn’t it just likely that most animal units are presumed to have a Shepard or minder of some kind? It’s less that a sheep is drawing maps and more that a Shepard boy has gotten very lost but is still able to send letters back home.

Okay but what about a Scholomance au Owl house fic? Luz, Hunter, Amity, Willow, Gus, ect attending the scholomance with Luz maybe having been from a mundane family and doing her best to have her interest in magic outshine the dark aspects of her new life in a school that seemingly wants to kill her.

Not super active on Tumblr anymore but wanted to share this thing I used to do with one of my friends. We texted (and later used messaging apps) a lot and at very odd times of the day. It was rarely super important (throwing story ideas back and forth, talking about shows we liked, ect) but at certain times in my life it helped keep me together when things were rough. 

Due to the odd hours we would chat at I could never know for sure if they were free to chat, or in a mental place where they were up to have a super detailed discussion about some hairbrained theory I had a book series, so I started just messaging them the word “Yop” when I was free and wanted to talk. It came from “Horton Hears a Who” when the little guy finally adds his voice to everyone else chanting ‘we are here’. The idea was that I could send that to them and let them know that I was there and wanted to chat, but they had no obligation to respond. Maybe they were too busy to talk, or they didn’t have the mental energy to engage with me, or something else; they did not need to drop everything to respond to me, but they knew I was there willing to talk.

It probably wont work for everyone as each relationship has its own quirks and rules of conduct but I thought I would put it out there if so if anyone needed a way to try to start conversations with someone without feeling like they are imposing a conversation.

Folks keeps talking about how this or that modern marvel that would supposedly kill a medieval peasant on sight, and like, buddy, you’re talking bout someone whose notion of what the world outside their village is like is informed principally by fourth- and fifth-generation copies of Roman Catholic bestiaries whose contents are ultimately cribbed from fucking Pliny the Elder. You think you’re going to be able to come up with anything at all that freaks this person out?

Amusingly, this did lead to various religious authorities attempting to outlaw juggling on several occasions, though the peasantry kind of just ignored those edicts entirely.

How about a 20 dollars worth of spices from the supermarket. Even if the average peasant doesn’t understand how ridiculously valuable or exotic that would be for the era I can’t imagine would it would be like to not even know a flavor or smell like cinnamon existed and then be brought fave to face with it.

…well I definitely got the impression this series was a LOT more popular than this. Given that the first book was an NYT best seller and my library has 138 people waiting for 22 copies of book 2 I guess perhaps popularity is not strictly the same as “having a significant fandom”. I mean, I could tell it hadn’t exploded, but I thought there’d be a couple hundred fics.

I would very much like an Liesel and El teaming up freshman year fic. Liesel helps El socialize with the rest of the school in a way that’s cynical enough for her to understand and Liesel gets some good storage crystals and the knowledge that her graduation alliance is going to be the type that has enclavers scrambling to join.

Honestly people are not giving Jinx enough credit like, she replicated the stabilizer that Jayce and Viktor made for the crystals out of old junk (even if it didn’t turn out perfectly XDD) and made all of her gadgets and weapons herself. She is just as much of a “let’s get our hands dirty with inventing” gearhead as the boys and now I really want to see an interaction between her and Viktor where they just become pure chaotic science besties.

So we’ve had a number of theories about Launda and I’m here to give you one that popped into my head just as I was falling asleep.

We know that Laudna is a lot older than she seems, and as a Hollow one isn’t really the same person as she used to be when fully souled. What if she is Imogen’s mother, or is at least filling out a motherly role? I’m going to admit that my memories at the moment are a little vague but a lot of those moments where Laudna is talking up Imogen could come across as a parent bragging about a child

More inadvisable Dungeons & Dragons character backgrounds:

A legendary warrior-king with an equally legendary enchanted blade, risen from deathless sleep after unnumbered centuries to answer their people’s hour of need, only to discover that the martial sciences have advanced somewhat while they’ve been napping, and by modern standards, “legendary warrior-king with an equally legendary enchanted blade” works out to “3rd level fighter with a +1 sword”  

A rogue wanted for multiple counts of regicide who claims it’s totally not their fault – they were just trying to run a petty grift, and one thing led to another, and suddenly there’s a dead king on their hands; though it’s apparently happened multiple times, all available evidence points to them telling the truth  

A sorcerer who’s the source of their own magical bloodline, owing to a spot of ill-considered time travel and a resulting “I’m my own grandpa” style predestination paradox (well, more like great great grandpa, which they contend makes it excusable – how many people can honestly say they’d recognise their own four-times-removed ancestor on sight?)  

A warlock whose pact was made quite unexpectedly when they and a bunch of their drunking buddies attempted to conjure a fictitious elder god they’d made up while absolutely hammered, and the god in question actually responded; it’s genuinely unclear whether some other entity is impersonating their fabricated patron, or whether they legitimately invented a Great Old One  

A wizard who has no formal training whatsoever, having worked out the secrets of wizardry from first principles by sheer accident while attempting to devise a better method of preserving canned peaches; in spite of their prodigious talent at spellcasting, they insist that it’s just something they do to pay the bills while continuing their quest for the perfect preserves

That first one is legitimately great in an Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer kind of way.

If I were playing them, I’d run them as a straight inversion of the everything-was-bigger-and-better-in-the-past trope that a lot of fantasy media is stuck on. Like: “Well, yes, in my day I was a legendary dragon-slayer, but in my day your average dragon was about the size of a cow. When did dragons get so big? How did dragons get so big?” Every word out of their mouth just raising further questions.

More powerful adventurers make for better meals for the monsters that manage to defeat them. Basically adventurers and monsters are in an ‘evolutionary’ competition against each-other. If we go with this explanation than the old feet’s of adventurers in days past probably still sounds exciting and grand as the enemies have grown at a roughly equal rate to the good guys. It’s like those that scale enemies as you level so things are never too easy for you.
