the impact of sango's words hit kagome like an arrow: an arrow set free with full force at a formidable foe. it pierced through her unapologetically. the tightness in her chest remained, yet her ribs expanded in a regretful inhale. woe was higurashi kagome; such was her nature: always worrying about everyone, always being on her toes to take care of another. ❝ mm, ❞ kagome responds, defeat sinking into her. it's not like her friend was wrong, and it's not like she didn't have them care about her just as much, but... somber browns glance into those of the taijiya. ❝ what do you think i should do, sango-chan ? ❞
Sango was quiet for a moment, her gaze softening. “I think… you should let someone else carry the burden for a little while.” A faint smile touched her lips. She reached over, gently taking one of Kagome’s hands between both of hers. The gesture was simple, to anchor her friend when her thoughts threatened to carry her away.
“You’re always the one patching wounds, encouraging people, worrying over everyone when they’re hurting. But you don’t have to be strong every moment of every day, Kagome.” Her eyes drifted briefly toward the village beyond them before returning to her friend. “If you’re tired, then rest. If something is troubling you, talk about it. The people who care about you would rather share your worries than watch you carry them alone.” For all the times Kagome had been there for her, Sango wished she could make her see that she deserved the same kindness she so freely gave to others.
the miko's heart swelled at the sentiments: this time, sango's words were the elixir to the wound. the brunette comforted her and made her realize the truth of it all. kagome had been carrying a lot. there have been things she never talked about, things she kept inside her heart that began to ache. kikyou and inuyasha, school, her role as a PRIESTESS ---- was she even good enough ? all these things were kept at bay because kagome had priorities to take care of.... but truth be told, kagome didn't feel like it was right to express anything to the group. she was the most fortunate of all members, and if she'd vented, kagome feared it wouldn't be fair. her hands squeezed sango's in return, both in love and in gratitude. the slayer truly had become a great friend to her in the time that they'd traveled together. what would she do if she didn't have sango's support like this? this is girlhood. chestnut hues are pricked with tears, a sign that the girl's words got to her. they indeed registered deeply, eyes glossy in their gaze at sango. though, roseate tiers do perk up in a soft smile. a nod follows. ❝ you're right, sango-chan. thank you for saying this to me, ❞ her shoulders drop, and kagome continues with a deep exhale... and a confession. ❝ i don't tell anyone anything because we're all fighting our own battles. the last thing i'd want to be is a burden to anyone. ❞

It's giving "just saw another dog across the street."
IT WAS A DELIGHT to watch the kids indulge in her modern snacks. one could presume chips were a universal food; no matter who you were or where you were from, it'd be almost impossible to refuse potato chips. crunching sounds were amongst them, click of tongues and small hums in harmony. the miko laughs and sinks down to lower her knees, smiling. ❝ you guys are just like souta! ❞ and then, just as kagome had predicted, came an onset of wind. leaves rustled; the gust encircled them all ---- an introduction to none other than the infamous missing kiddo! browns watch the little one make her appearance and her eyes glisten in awe. ❝ kawaiiiii~ ❞ kagome croons, unable to restrain herself. the miko was enamored by the tiny weasel. even after her transformation, kagome remained glued.
watching them all interact, higurashi couldn't help but note hebisuke's consistent manners. he did such a good job caring for these two... so polite and responsible. this warmed her heart. ❝ my, my. the pleasure is all mine, ❞ and of course, with hime pleading like this, the miko incarnate wasted no time opening the second bag of chips from under her arm. kagome was a sucker for cuteness. with a shake of the bag, a pile of potato fries lands into open palms. ❝ ne, hime-chan. here you go! ❞
An excited trill escapes the youngest of the trio, “thanks!” and she starts eating. As expected, you act cute around humans and they become food dispensers! Who was the smartest Kama-itachi kit named Kazehime? She was! Ehehe~
All three children were enjoying the snacks, absolutely enthralled with the new flavor that they hadn’t tried until now. They were going to have to ask for these to be imported from the human world. Surely their contacts would be able to procure these snacks for them too, just like how they bring in Dorayaki for them sometimes!
Hebisuke holds out a few chips for Kagome, “will you not have some as well?” it feels off for only the children to be eating the snacks, because as they say, food tastes better with company. What better company was there than 3 cute kids trying chips for the first time?
The other two, mid-bite, pause in thought. Food tastes better when you share? Does it? Tamako, the more gluttonous of the three, went back to eating her chips. Kazehime on the other hand kept debating over it. Sharing means less chips! Though… tastier chips is worth it! Still… it is less chips and she was one snack short for the day because SOMEONE ate her snack!
In reality, what the children really should’ve been focused on was the fact that they’d snuck out of the manor. They were going to get into a lot of trouble if they don’t get back soon, but the yummy snacks made them forget about this important fact. By the time they’d remember, it’d be too late.

A SMALL HAND IS OUTSTRETCHED TO HER, offering the very snack she brought out to entertain the little ones. absolutely enamored by hebisuke's gesture, kagome merely indulges because it would be a crime not to! this is too cute??? brown eyes gleamed in adoration at the gorging of snacks, and yet her eyes managed to observe the other two taking the moment into consideration. she was quick to notice how they paused briefly and watched their polite sibling share what he had. of course, they went on with their portion, irregardless. it didn't bother kagome that they didn't want to contribute ---- it actually made her burst into a fit of giggles.
lost in her laughter, kagome, like the rest of the children, failed to pick up on the unmistakable aura that permeated the vicinity. it was strong, vivid, and... familiar. but by the time it registered in her mind, it was too late. the aura and voice came crashing down on her all at once. butterflies flew about the miko's tummy, surprise evidently taking root. a pivot towards the voice that had not yet changed revealed someone tall, regal, and silver. though a little different than what she remembered, kagome knew this combination like the back of her hand. lips part in a gasp as the swarm of butterflies went rampant.
