I Met Death In A Graveyard.
She sat upon a tombstone.
A clear yet dreary night.
The moon stood full amongst the stars,
With not a single cloud in sight.
A glitter from beneath her cowl, a single drop of grief.
The stench of her was sweet, yet foul.
Below the flowers, for those who lied beneath.
Was filled with a recent dead,
Perhaps someone she couldn't save.
Cautious as I approached , the girl dressed in shade
From head to toe, she was a shadow
And contact had just been made.
"I know you," I said, a mild tremor in my voice.
"I've seen you many times my dear, and it was hardly ever by choice."
She draped upon the head stone.
Legs bleached white as bone.
The bottom of her feet were dirty.
As the midnight sun had shown.
She sat across the marker, head lowered towards the ground.
And as if she spoke with the wind, there suddenly was sound.
"Indeed I have always been there, since the days you first cried."
"Since the days your mothers and fathers, began to slowly die."
"Since Kingdom rise to Kingdom come to Kingdom fall."
"I've been here since mankind's disgrace, I've been here to see it all."
"I steal your life, I take your breath. You know by what name to call."
On the tombstone, she seemed tall.
"The Reaper is a title, Death and her sweet kiss. To take us to a special place were nothing is amiss."
"Gatherer, Taker of souls what are you doing here?"
"These vessels drained of your burden. They rest in endless bliss."
It all paused for a moment,
Beneath the late evening sky.
She seemed lost in torment,
"Have you ever known, what it's like to be alone. Because in the end, I'm here again. With cold stones and dusty bones."
"I take great care and grace, when those who call my name. Dare their last time, in this place where everything's the same."
"I do know the pain, but not for the times you've known. I've been around the block a few, but only little have I shown."
With uneasy steps I neared, to cheeks white as snow.
Because to get so close to death, could cause something unknown.
She shrieks in anger, though it seems more like surprise.
"Are you so dense, you have no sense, do you not realize?"
I stopped for a moment, and took the other end.
Sitting upon the tombstone, the silence began to bend.
It broke in tears and sobbing, she moved into my arms.
For all the years I've been living, I didn't care if she harms.
"You never had a proper name. Just those that describe. So maybe something new, something you can abide."
Her head removed from my chest, I pull the hood away.
Half young woman, half dead corpse.
The difference as clear as day.
I wipe away a tear, that decided it wanted to stay.
"Celia, Claudia, maybe Anna-Marie. Though they do not fit a soul, as pretty as thee."
I sat and pondered for sometime, that stretched toward the infinite.
I scrunched my face, in thoughtful place, committed patience definite.
"For one as pure, and true for sure. I shall now name you Annette."
She turned away in thought, which my suggestion had brought.
But turned back with a smile, as long as a mile
She nodded with no regret.
"I like it, it's perfect may I now know yours? I've heard it many times. But I want to be sure."
I told her mine, and she continued to smile with blood red ruby lips.
She place a kiss upon cheek, and rose from my grips.
"Thank you for your kindness. I never felt such life."
I said, "For death, who takes our breath. You don't deserve such strife."
Her cheeks blushed, like blood upon the moon.
She laughed and danced, then leapt and pranced.
"I must go, but so you know. This night shall remain."
"A memory close to my heart, despite the endless pain."
"When your time comes, it surely will. I'll greet you for the final night. Then we can walk, laugh, and talk. Because you brighten all like light."
She vanished amongst the tombstones.
With eerie hums and songs.
My heart beating like drums. As I listened to her go along.
I felt like I had did right, but in so committed wrong.
Amongst the stones and moon.
I feel her drawing closer.
I know I'll see her soon.
She'll silence all the screams
That fill my head and heart
She'll out an end to what began.
