an angel on letterboxd just dropped a whole playlist of films free on youtube I was filled with so much love and light I had to share with you guys
it also includes short films, animated movies, documentaries of every genre, full recordings of live performances. all spanning different decades from different countries. YOU DONT EVEN FUCKING KNOW
there are also websites like worldscinema, solidaritycinema, and rarefilmm hosting incredible obscure world cinema for free! and if you're more inclined towards the esoteric, there's also evilbjork's avant-garde canon playlist on youtube! also important to mention Maya S. Cade's incredible black film archive and the otherness archive, an obscure queer cinema archive! You could always be watching more films !
He doesn’t think about you as often as he thinks about you thinking about him. And you do the same. Two people using each other to imagine themselves.

I hate ruminating on what could have been. Out here thinking "if only I locked in when I was 13" are we serious
Jules Feiffer, Explainers
Ugh ai stresses me out i can only think about how likely i am to lose my job because swes hate themselves enough to want to live this way
- i feel like i get dumber every prompt. You get off the computer and have the embarassing thought of "if only i could prompt this physical task". Prompting feels akin to gambling
- am i actually more productive? To make sure i review code well, instead of gettting an understanding through coding i have to spend more time reviewing. I feel like the people who say they are 10x are not reviewing with any rigor (granted, half of my coworkers definitely didnt before and idk if theyll start now).
- less satisfying, too much context switching (how in the world are you keeping track of 5 different agents simultaneously), tired, stressed by the "ai will replace you" narrative. See that hbr article about how ai intensifies work. If i survived layoffs id be pissed with the amount of extra work i now have to do
- you can tell these apps were vibe coded cursor ui really pisses me off. If someone says they dont write a single line of code anymore it's because modifying a file outside the agent means the agent doesnt know you made the change since itd need to know to reread the file so it's better to tell it to write a specific code change (from what i can tell, anyway)
- 4.6 sonnet felt excrutiatingly painful to the point it was faster to code what i wanted myself. I guess opus uses millions of tokens for a reason. I wonder if they make the models purposefully inefficient in order to make more money. I also wonder when issueing bonds on data centers that havent been made blows up in their faces that anthropic et all are going to raise prices. Maybe the models will be more efficient by then but it wont matter if theyre not adopted widely enough
- i dont think there are enough ppl who find working this way agonizing enough to stop it. Engineering focusing more on planning instead of actually coding seems likely, at least for certain companies
- if a large percent of the workforce is now unemployed because of ai, whos going to buy your company's product? We have a k shaped economy so i guess theyre banking on the wealthy buying what theyre selling but a lot of discretionary consumer spending is from white collar workers (and this would lead to blue collar work drying up as well, even if not directly working with ai). Who wins here, the wealthy + data centers people want to burn? Oh and thats not even considering trumps economy. Only way out is legislation, and, well.
- idk everything feels bleak i dont understand the optimism
- will say there are certain tasks it's positive for, particularly tasks you didnt want to do in the first place, or low complexity work. Ease of burden, not much lost here. Tab complete too but tbh this is saving such a negligible amount of time. If you have finger pain and want to type less I guess. Good for debugging esp if you have to read through a ton of logs. Also a lot better now for search
- designer trying to claude code their way to making design library changes and it's such an inefficient workflow that you have to use ai to make looking at their self admitted slop less painful
- using claude as an authority. "Claude said this would fix the issue, heres it's explanation" cant you take any responsibility here?
- apparently colleges are offering ai degrees? Are these on prompting? Tbh you dont even need to prompt that well anymore if you can just pay for usage
- guess i should use ai to help me interview prep (if you have a hard time talking about yourself in the way corporate wants ai is optimized for this lol)

hourlies
stop spreading despair and nihilism
stop buying into the idea that nonviolent activism is useless, rather than (by far) the most effective form of protest
stop falsely claiming that BLM accomplished nothing and that most citizens “don’t care” when people are murdered by the state
start understanding that most of your neighbors care about your rights, and their own
start noticing that most people are moved by injustice, including against people who look nothing like them
The pushback against ICE exposed a series of mistaken assumptions.
