Born and raised in Aurora Bay, Hinata grew up in the ocean. His parents had moved to the US from Japan long before he was born and they made their lives in the little beach town and ended up establishing what’s known today as Air Bubbles Scuba Diving Club. Hinata’s mother had always been in love with the ocean and she told him stories about her diving experiences and taught him about sea creatures, and how it’s their responsibility to take care of the ocean. Even when he was little his mother would take him out to the beach and they would pick up garbage to make sure Aurora Bay’s beaches were clean.
Of course Hinata helped his parents with the club, though growing up he mostly helped clean the equipment and made sure oxygen tanks were full, but his goal was to become a diving instructor. He was a strong swimmer and his parents took him diving as much as possible, but the business always came first.
When Hinata was a teenager his parents went on a diving expedition with the club and it went terribly wrong. Hinata’s mother did not return and after days of searching, they eventually came to the conclusion that she had drowned. Everything changed after that. Hinata’s father fell into a depression and completely shut down, Hinata was in denial, and before he knew it his father was selling the club to someone else. That final sale was what finally made Hinata realize that his mother really wasn’t coming back.
Despite hating the changes the new owner wanted to make to the club after taking it over from his father, Hinata continued working at the club and eventually reached his goal of becoming an instructor. While his father eventually healed and remarried, Hinata hasn’t totally moved on, especially since he feels resentment towards his father for selling the club. Hinata is basically married to his job and in his free time he likes to clean up the beaches and even dives to clean up plastic out of the ocean. However, recently he’s been trying to put himself out there more. Trying to move on from the past and trying to make new relationships with friends, his step-siblings, and more. He is most often on his boat or in the sea.
Hinata was still trying his best to get out and be more sociable but he found himself incredibly awkward at it all, so he decided it would be easier to do so by asking someone that had a lot in common with him to do things together. So, he asked Miriam. The two worked together and she was cool, so he thought he'd invite her to drinks.
"My cousin owns this bar. Just a little fun fact, ya know." He shrugged, finding this whole making friends thing was pretty awkward.
Iris always preferred sitting at the bar at Tejas because seats were usually available, she could order food just the same, and drink service was a lot faster. And on top of that, she got to chit-chat with whomever deigned to sit beside her--like now. She hummed as she scooped up some salsa on her chip, shrugging at him, "Nah, not pathetic. But hey, you're out right now! So so far so good? And so far you haven't burst into flames or anything, right?"
Hinata chuckled at the woman's joke and brought his bottle of beer to his lips as he shook his head. "No, not yet." Although you'd think it would be a concern with how unwilling he was to get out at times. He took a swig of his drink and shrugged. "All that matters is I'm trying, right?"
Fletcher tilts his head a bit to one side and then the other, letting out a soft 'eh' sound in thought. "I don't think it's pathetic to chase any sort of goal," he gradually says. "Or do you mean that you're admitting you're a homebody?"
He makes a face in contemplation.
"I'm a bit of a homebody. I go out hiking and like being outdoors, but I'm not out out much, so I have a bias."
"I mean that I'm a homebody-- or well, I guess just incredibly introverted, because I do go out fishing on the sea a lot. Or diving and all that, but I'm not all that social, ya know? I've ben trying to get out there more, I guess."
"Nah, I don't think it's pathetic." Kiho started, taking a sip from his drink. Though maybe he was completely biased because he would much rather be home than out socializing. "Does being on your boat not count as going out?" He asked curiously. To him, it sounded like a 'flex' and not at all pathetic. "How's that change going for you?"
"I guess but I don't think most people my age are out fishing instead of socializing." Hinata put too much pressure on himself to be 'normal', and the standards were entirely made up by himself. "So far its just me feeling awkward having conversations with strangers."

Another beautiful day in Aurora Bay! Amara's dressed in something boho-chic and loose, likely over her swimsuit, carrying an oversized satchel full of whatever accessories she thinks she'll need today as she approaches Hinata inside the building for the scuba school. Her smile is bright, though there might be a hint of nervousness in her eyes. Whether that's for him or the water is yet to be determined.
"Hey," she greets him warmly. "So, I was wondering if you... still had a lunch today?" In the same instant, she pulls an unmarked brown paper bag from the satchel. "I-I mean... if you still had time for one?"
It was surprisingly a slow day at the scuba diving club that day, so Hinata had already finished most of his preparations and was now sitting behind the front desk. His eyes lit up when he spotted Amara walking through the front door, and he hopped off his seat and moved to greet her. "Hey!" He smiled at her. "Yeah, I do. I haven't taken it yet but I was probably going to soon."
Gabe had been doing a lot of desk work which at first seemed like a bit of a bore but there were a lot of things that had appeared in his desk lately that had been something to actually make a difference without anyone ever getting hurt. A case his colleague had mentioned to him that had never really been closed wound up on his desk and he had to investigate. “ no I think I’d be terrible at it “ Gabe admitted “ I’m actually on duty. I’m Gabriel Haddad, im a detective. I’m looking for someone who might work here” @hinataxito
Hinata eyed the man and it was evident he wasn't ready for an underwater excursion, but when he stated he was a detective on duty, looking for one of the club's workers, Hinata's brows rose. "Oh.." He stood up a little straighter as his mind raced about who he could be looking for. "I'm Hinata Ito, one of the instructors." He held his hand out to shake. "Who are you looking for?"
Hinata:We can take it slow. Sometimes people get nervous but once they get out there they have a blast. Sometimes they don't go through with it, and thats okay!
Hinata: i'm always working, so yes lol
Hinata: yeah we do! So you don't have to worry about all that
@amarathegreat
amara: lol I just know what's down there 😉
amara: no I'm honestly excited! I think it's gonna be fun.
amara: and perfect! Looking forward to it!
@hinataxito
Hinata was getting the boat ready for the next excursion when he spotted an unfamiliar face on the docks. "Hey, you coming for an appointment or something?" He asked as he stepped up onto the dock.
amara: I'll either love it or be super nervous in the water
amara: but yeah I'm gonna come down next week and hit you up. Assuming you're working.
amara: you guys rent the suits and stuff, right? I don't have my own wetsuit...
@hinataxito
Hinata:We can take it slow. Sometimes people get nervous but once they get out there they have a blast. Sometimes they don't go through with it, and thats okay!
Hinata: i'm always working, so yes lol
Hinata: yeah we do! So you don't have to worry about all that
@amarathegreat
There was a moment of quiet after Hinata's short explanation. From experience, he knew this was something he either needed to drop completely or tread lightly. For now, he dropped it but he had a feeling his curiosity would get the best of him before the day was over.
"Here, throw it in th'back of m'truck. Th'dumpster gets so full so fast, th'apartments have one of those compactor things fer their dumpsters, I'll throw it in when I get back home."
Hinata could feel the discomfort in the silence. It was something he always hated the most about talking about his mother's death. Some people in town didn't think it was fully an accident, which he hated to admit that he was one of them. It happened a long time ago, and some people couldn't even remember it.
"Yeah, thanks. That would be awesome. So, uh.. how's everything been with you?"
💰 : has your muse ever stolen anything, big or small? why? were they ever caught?
I’ve never stolen anything unless you count the time I took a piece of candy off the shelf of a store when I was a baby. My mom didn’t notice until I was out in the parking lot. But even then I only know that story because she told me.
