✎ Why Hiraethenhandmade? ✎

I'm building a platform here and forming a catalog of all of the items for Spring 2026. I hope to get a foot in the door of the wild world of small creators.

Y'all will get the privilege of incrementally watching me going through the ups and downs of physical creation. I'm keeping it raw and real over here to give the other future creators a real look into what happens behind the scenes. ☺ I love spicing stuff up. I hate the bland and the boring. I think that everybody looks the same- everything is too clean and too perfect, and I'm here to bring a hand made touch to life that humanity needs. Why be bland? Keep it niche :)

Finding plus size stuff is such a NIGHTMARE and it should never be. Never. Finding clothing in a REAL XL should not be a challenge. XL means ‘for a bigger body’, not ‘I’m not worthy.’ Both men’s and women’s have this issue and it’s SO ANNOYING ITS GOING TO MAKE ME E X P L O D E.

Women have no pockets, no “real” sizes beyond a 35 inch waist, and no one on planet earth has seemed to be able to figure out that actual real big boobs that are larger then your hands exist. Men omfg don’t even get me started. The only options we have are StandardTM or like…. casual tactical (in skinny). No fun colors. No fun patterns. I swear if men see a fun anything they going to explode too. Smh. It just ain’t fair.

That’s why I’m working hard to make the change.

Bleach and Denim.

I remember the first time using bleach to strip away the color of some plain and boring denim. I'm attempting it again now and once again I remember why I hate doing it to a degree. Maybe I'm just impatient? Maybe I'm greedy and just want stuff to work my way all the damn time? But the wait with this pair of jeans is killing me. I think it's the blend that's both holding it together and refusing to let the rich blue go. One leg is already a wonderful gradient of near solid white so I'm hesitant to call it quits and trash the whole project. Maybe just one more bleach bath will achieve the color I want...

I think I just need to read a label if items have them. Don't get on me for not reading, I know a huge majority of people out there don't when it comes to clothing. A huge percent of what is manufactured in the modern day is polyester/plastic crap anyway, so people don't care.

Punching time!!

I'm welcoming these new paper punches into the crafting mix. XL leaf and XS castle punch for my business cards.

I'm aiming towards 100% sustainable practices. Not only is it cheaper for me, but for future buyers. One way for me to be sustainable is to use the boxes left over from cereal boxes. You don't need to buy expensive and brand new materials when there are already processed and bought and right in front of you!

Update on this!: maybe don't, it'll wreck your new punch.

As yall know, I'm learning how to do everything from scratch. I know a lot but it's not enough to prevent stupid shit from happening. A word of advice; maybe don't attempt to punch through really thin cardboard even with the bigger punches. It was really tempting for me to punch the cardboard (it's more like a really thick cardstock) and the papers and glue them together for a really nice fit but I learned very fast that it was a bad idea. The first and only 5 or so test runs damn near wrecked and chipped the punch to the point of making it unusable. As a result of this, sometimes mu punched papers won't come out as crisp as they should. The metal struggles to get the stem to come out in one piece without ripping and that little curve you see on the lighter colored leaf is almost guaranteed to not come out looking great. Whoops.

Lesson learned: don't even attempt to punch through that cereal card stock cardboard unless you wanna make a $30 mistake.

Yesterday I found 4 really good candidates for repurposing! 2 pants and 2 shorts. I’m a little upset that there were no ‘real’ plus sizes in this lot but the shorts came close.

Plus size friends trust me I’m thinking of you all the time! It’s not fair that the slimmer people get all of the fun options.
