sorry im late, i started thinking about history and the bittersweet beauty of the fact that people from thousands of years ago are so similar to people today and i had to lie down on the floor for a while
Btw, if anyone wants like….Sources on sex work in the long 18th century, I’ve done masterposts of the books I’ve read over the years I’ve studied this topic here.
I also did two posts on the ‘real women’ of Harlots a.k.a. real Georgian era sex workers whose lives inspired or are similar to Harlots characters. Part 1 and Part 2!
Oh, and also re: the Dead Hooker trope and how it doesn’t reflect reality….I did a post when the infamous Harlots episode aired listing all the examples of notable sex workers of the 18th century NOT dying violently here
LASTLY, I did my MA degree in 18th century history and my best paper (and also, out of my entire class for the entire MA degree, the paper that got the highest grade) was about portrayals of luxury in prostitution narratives of the 18th century, specifically the Memoirs of Sophia Baddeley. I uploaded it for anyone to read here.

best scene in hamlet is the one where hamlet is like “well i cant kill claudius NOW!! he’s praying!! his soul has just been cleaned so he’ll just go to heaven and not hell like he deserves >:(”
and cut to claudius “i forgot how to pray!1FUCK!!!!! FUCK!!!!! I dont know how to pray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
in honour of james' birthday, the quote that will haunt me till I die and will probably continue to do so afterwards

frankenstein is about self loathing and recognition through the Other. it’s about the original sin. it’s about what we owe to our creations and each other. it’s about internalized homophobia and the monstrosity of a man desiring another man. it’s about Romance. it’s about romance. it’s about playing god. it’s about being transgender. it’s about the absent fathergod. it’s about society. it’s about unethical medical experiments. it’s about gay college dropouts. it’s about a big nasty monster dude who is, and i cannot stress this enough, spooky
