It really annoys me when people take facts from the movies that do not exist in the books and claim it to be canon or use it as evidence for their theories. If it’s not in the books, it’s not canon. I mean, do what you want, but I hate it and will never take it seriously, and that is my confession.

I really hate the double standards in the hp fandom. a lot of people say draco malfoy should be forgiven for his misdeeds (racism, bullying, joining a genocidal terrorist organization) because “HE WAS A CHILD!!!” but they are so quick to hang ron weasley at the stake for his moments of jealously, pettiness, and self doubt. ron’s not perfect of course but he wasn’t this evil stupid person who was unworthy of hermione’s affection like everyone makes him out to be. ron was one of the few characters in the series who learned from and apologized for his mistakes. and like draco, ron was also a child. i just don’t see why everyone makes a big deal about draco deserving forgiveness when he was a child but then they turn right around and bash ron for making mistakes when he was just a kid too. it’s very hypocritical.
I think the ones that say that Dramione should have been canon and that Draco was more suited for Hermione than Ron really and truly forget the things Draco said and did to Hermione. Even if you say “well Draco redeemed himself” why would you think that Hermione would be that forgiving to date him? She can forgive and be cordial to him, but she wouldnt have dated him.
Also, the ones that say that Draco secretly liked Hermione but acted that way because of his family, that’s bull and extremely toxic. It romanticizes bullying, and that “he is mean to you because he likes you” nonsense.
Keep Dramione in your alternate universe stories where you can manipulate the characters to fit your narrative. But as far as canon is concerned, Dramione would have never worked and is amongst one of the most toxic relationships to say should have been canon.
Listen I’ll stop trashing Snape as soon as someone can give me a good reason for Neville Longbottom, the boy whose parents were tortured to insanity by someone who is still alive, to be more afraid of Snape than anything in the world.
things you may have forgotten because of the movies/fanon
luna lovegood has dirty blonde hair (book 5, chapter 10)
lily potter has dark red hair (book 1, chapter 12)
neville longbottom has blond hair (JKR interview)
hermione granger has bushy hair (book 1, chapter 6)
james potter is tall (book 1, chapter 12)
at seventeen, harry potter is the same height as his father so he is also tall (book 7, chapter 34)
peter pettigrew is fat (book 3, chapter 10)
severus snape has yellow-ish teeth (book 3, chapter 14)
ginny weasley is fucking awesome (books 1-7)
Let’s talk about the battle in the Department of Mysteries for a sec. So after the group gets split up, Harry, Hermione and Neville go one way and Ron, Ginny and Luna the other. The next time we see the latter group Ginny’s ankle is busted and Ron’s brain is addled. Luna says that the Death Eaters blew up a planet in the planetarium and hit Ron with some sort of hex.
Let’s take a moment to examine that. If the curse that hit the planet had hit any of the kids, they’d be dead. So the Death Eater probably missed, hit the planet ahead of them, injuring Ginny. But here’s the important part: the one who actually gets hit by the hex? Ron.
Why is this important? Because Ron is consistently described throughout the series as tall. Like, every time Harry sees him after the beginning of summer he’s described as having shot up. Again. On the other hand Ginny is described as “the small one” by Bellatrix Lestrange. But Ron is behind her. I don’t know if you know this but tall people can run really fast. I am not particularly fit but I am tall. And I can pour on the speed when my adrenaline’s up, which I have no doubt was the case for everyone in the Department of Mysteries. But he’s behind her.
Because he did that deliberately. He kept his body between the Death Eaters and the girls. He shielded them from their spells. Because those he cares about are more important to him than his own life.
I don’t know, I just think about this a lot.
Ron is a strategist, and has already shown a willingness to take the hit for the team and be left behind. In any group, I think that’s just his default position; take the hit, buy more time for others to escape. He’s well aware that realistically, someone is going to be hurt. In this case, Luna is creative and smart enough to come up with something out of left field to throw the enemy off. Ginny is small, but she’s an athletic powerhouse who can throw strong hexes. If it comes down to a crunch, Ron knows that the two of them can fight their way out, and he can increase their odds by at least holding off the wave behind them.
Honestly, this is such an important point.
Consistently throughout the series, Ron can be seen being taken out of the action somehow. AND IT IS NEVER BECAUSE HE IS WEAK.
Rather, it’s because Ron is a STRATEGIST, who CARES.
In Philosopher’s Stone, for example. Ron allows himself to be “taken” by the queen, because he knows that he is standing with the Boy-Who-Lived and the Brightest-Witch-Of-Her-Age and Voldy must be stopped and it’s SIMPLE to him. Ron is a strategist, like has been said. It’s a strategic decision - who cares if it puts himself in harm’s way?
In Prisoner of Azkaban, Ron and Harry are faced with the Grim, and what does Ron do? He pushes Harry out of Sirius’ path, in the process allowing the dog to latch onto his outstretched arm and pull him away, breaking his leg as they enter the Willow. This decision is simple too - it’s because Harry Potter means the world to Ron Weasley, and Ron would not hesitate for a moment in putting himself between Harry and danger.
RON IS A STRATEGIST, AND RON CARES.
And when it comes down to it, he never hesitates.
And don’t forget DH:
“Wait,” said Bellatrix sharply. "All except… except for the Mudblood.“ Greyback gave a grunt of pleasure. “No!” shouted Ron. “You can have me, keep me!”
“Right,” said Ron, squaring his shoulders. “So you can’t go, that’s what he wants, what he’s expecting. You stay here and look after Hermione, and I’ll go and get it —”
Where do people who claim Ron is a coward who hides behind his friends get their bullshit from?
I really hope we colonize the planet Mars someday in my lifetime, but they better name at least something on Mars “Pigfarts.”
Dimensions and Stereotypes
I think I’ve figured out what bothers me the most about the Harry Potter movies. More than the plot holes, more than just the bad decisions, more than just the changes in dialogue. It’s how they minimized everything.
The characters of the Harry Potter world are all fascinating, unique characters. Say what you want, but you can never say that a character was boring. Sure, we didn’t know enough about some, and sure, we didn’t see some enough, but I rarely see complaints about the characters being “boring”. And the movies just, made these characters so 2-dimensional. They removed Ron’s loyalty and bravery and emphasized the parts of him that were comedy relief. They removed Hermione’s bossiness and trust of authority and emphasized her intelligence. They removed Harry’s cleverness and deductive skills, and emphasized his rashness. They toned down Snape’s characteristics in order to emphasize his “love” for Lily. They removed Dumbledore’s kindness and heart, and emphasized his manipulativeness. And I could go on and on about other characters. Filch, the Marauders, Bellatrix, the centaurs, and so many other characters were all reduced from fascinating characters to caricatures. Like these characters or hate them, I have met very few people who deny that they’re interesting characters. And look what the movies did.
And they focused on stereotypes with what they left. Ron became the stereotypical comic relief, unable to do anything good on purpose. Hermione became the stereotypical genius, perfect in every way. The wizarding world was full of stereotypes. Everything was rickety, and creaky. Creepy and disturbing became the natural vibe of the movies. Because it was magic, everything was translated to being Halloween all the time, spooky and dark. The worst part of that is that the wizarding world was supposed to be full of color. Unique, unusual colors. These are supposed to be people I would expect to be accused of being colorblind, because they’re that colorful. But no, because it was magic, it all had to be blacks and grays, and muted colors. And that’s the real tragedy of the movies. The worst part is that you don’t need to lose that 3-dimensional vibe that the books had. It wasn’t a necessity, it was a choice.

I would like to thank this blog/confessions for helping me realize how underrated Ron Weasley is. He truly deserves more in life. That being said, I find it ridiculous that any time a moment is mentioned from the books where Ron wasn’t acting his best, people get so frustrated and try to act like Ron never did stupid things before and that the confessor is just trying to bash him to make a point. C’mon guys! Ron is amazing but he was also a teenaged boy who made mistakes! That’s okay to admit!
“A clever plan..because if Harry here and his friend Ron hadn’t discovered this book, why–Ginny Weasley might have taken all the blame. No one would ever have been able to prove she hadn’t acted of her own free will…and imagine…what might have happened then…The Weasleys are one of our most prominent pure-blood families. Imagine the effect on Arthur Weasley and his Muggle Protection Act, if his own daughter was discovered attacking and killing Muggle-borns…”
It brings me SO MUCH joy that the plot of Chamber of Secrets basically happens because Lucius is terrified out of his mind of Arthur and Molly Weasley and their SEVeN kids who were all raised to hold the line in case anyone tried to start a genocidal regime again. They are so powerful and so dangerous to any attempted rise to power from the Death Eaters, and Lucius feels the need to try and marginalize and demonize them in order to decrease the threat they pose.
And boy was he right to be concerned, they are…unstoppable. Each and every one of them. You thought it was impressive that it took five Death Eaters to kill their uncles? Try having a couple Weasleys illegally on the airwaves, one destroying Voldemort’s Horcruxes, one protesting at Hogwarts, one running loose in the government, one housing escaped prisoners, and one getting foreign support!! More children than they can afford? Try more children than you can effectively stop!!
And then when they ALL show up to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts? What a trip for Lucius Malfoy! Hey bigots! Would you like to pick an opponent based on which Quidditch position they excel at, or do you wanna roll the dice and go with one of the brothers who got 12 OWLs? Those are your only two options because Weasleys are EVERYWHERE and the weak link is NO ONE. The fear that must have been in his heart when one or two of them was around every corner of the school taking down his DE pals…is so amazing to think about. Glorious. Iconic. Every Weasley has red hair, freckles, and a drive to destroy the concept of blood purity at all cost!!
The Weasleys are not always nice or right, but they are GOOD and they believe in standing up for what is good, and when evil is around they SHOW UP to fight it. No questions asked. And evil is so scared of them, so worried about what they can do, that it resorts to desperately weaponizing a little girl to try and stop them.
THIS IS AMAZING!!!! GO, WEASLEYS!!!
I really cannot stress enough how dumb this is but I really cannot comprehend the idea of time and that I will know in like 2 months what Crimes of Grindelwald is really about in detail while now having absolutely no clue or vague idea what mysteries there are yet to discover and what i am saying is when does november finally start
Idee: Lasst uns Fresh Dumbledore zum ESC schicken!
I personally think that Harry and Ginny are perfect for each other. In the books their development as a couple is very evident and beautiful. It’s just annoying that people ship Harry and Hermione because their relation in books was evidently like best friends or brother and sister.
I know some people are of the view that canon is apparently so awful that there are certain fanfictions that are better. I totally disagree. I haven’t read a single fanfic that even comes close to the magic of the original series, that captures the characters in quite the same way. There’s nothing about canon I would change, not Draco, not Sirius, not Harry’s kids names. They’re all perfect. And tbh, I still don’t know what people wanted from the epilogue that they hate the one we got so much.
