#like #i like the duality of membrane that canon offers #because you could write him from being a good father who is trying to downright abusive and neither of those takes #and all the takes in between #are entirely incorrect?? because the thing with iz is that it’s so surface level with so many undertones of something that COULD be deeper #that most interpretations aren’t NOT backed up by canon #at least a little bit #so in this one they all just kinda drift apart and Membrane doesn’t even realise it and he never does #and Dib moves out into Zim’s house and he has his found family arc #and Gaz is just..#stuck #because what else is she supposed to do?#like there’s the funny canon thing where she’s this eldritch god who can do anything and everything in creepy and unexplained ways #but then there’s eldricth god who can do anything and everything in magical ways in a realistic setting #who has to get a job and pay rent and deal with human emotions #and I love Gaz’s character and I never write her :(#i just write Dib and/or Zim pining for eachother #and while that’s fine because I have fun doing that and my writing is for fun and i can do what I want #sometimes it’s a nice breath of fresh air to focus on other characters or other things #rambling in the tags #iz #invader zim #gaz #gaz membrane #dib #dib membrane

ALSO writing your own fanfiction for yourself and yourself only is so rewarding, and doubly so when you have terrible memory. When did I add in this extra scene? I don’t know, but it slaps! It’s like leaving some extra food for yourself in the fridge and then forgetting it’s there and being pleasantly surprised.

Writing American characters is so hard because it’s like ‘is this just Australian slang? Would the characters even talk like this? Do i care enough to change it?’ And then I decide to hell with it I do what I want and keep it in.

#like hmm I mean #it’s not nearly as ‘Aussie Slang’ as what you’d get wayyyy outback #but still sometimes i’m like ‘... do other people use this phrase?’#then again my understanding of American slang comes from the internet and the internet only so it’s probably severely lacking #in that department #hm
