Kiss Meme — Accepting!

It was a soft hug - a docile and gentle one. A kind of hug that says “There, there. It’s okay now”, warm in it’s intentions. “You’re not a monster, Kaneki. You are not. Wipe away this thoughts of your head.” Being as small as she was, Kaede struggled a little to kiss his forehead. Like the hug, it was a calming one. The woman wanted to protect him with all her will; and not only to keep him unharmed. Kaede wanted to heal his soul.

She had to admit that was at least relieved that caught his interest in the subject - that meant more time to convince him of the veracity of her discourse. However, speaking about the event that turned the woman into a orphan was too painful to keep the sorrow away from the eyes. “It’s not really a good subject to kill time.”

Even saying that, Kaede actually had the intention to tell him about her past. Details could be spared, the sore little things that haunted her. “I was just a child, so things are a little blurry. They killed my father, my mother… Sorry - stepmother and stepbrother.” She tried to give a small smile, even if it was touched by sadness.

Kaede knew that most of ghouls resent of CCG after losing someone. Maybe that ghoul lost someone too? “We were able to escape for a few time. Eventually they found us and… It wasn’t… Nice.” Sighing slightly, the blonde stopped for a moment. No - definitely wasn’t nice. But he didn’t need to know how much. “They were ghouls - my stepmother and my stepbrother. But CCG couldn’t understand that two humans could love two ghouls. They turned it into a crime. And their justice fell upon us.”

Kanae is speechless.  He can’t understand that two humans could love two ghouls either.  As best as he can read this person, she’s telling the truth.  It’s a trick, and he’s starting to fall for it..?  What kind of dumb trick is this, though?  Who would seriously expect a ghoul to believe this kind of nonsense?  A cat would do well not to listen to anything the mouse in his paw has to say…but what the hell, mouse?

The black fades out of his eyes as he stares at Kaede and tries to figure out how to react.  If this is real, even if she’s sharing it as part of a trick, even if he has to end up eating her, his sense of honor requires him to respect the tragedy as what it is. 

“The CCG…or something like it, I was young…killed my parents,” he says slowly, still watching her, unblinking.   "My two older brothers got me out, but I lost them to humans too.  They died protecting me.  I had to leave my country; the only place I knew that was safe was with my relatives in Japan.  So…here I am.“ 

He suddenly doesn’t know what to follow that with.  He was going somewhere with that, what…

"I don’t know if you’re telling the truth,” he says quickly.  “You have my condolences, if you are.  But I’m telling you now, I’m not prepared to let humans take anything else from me without a fight.  Not the CCG, not you.”

It was almost tangible the empathy Kaede had for Kanae. The sad smile was still there, contemplating a soul as damaged as hers. That was one of the things that made the scientist believe that everyone - ghouls and humans - are the same. The grief, the love, the pain. The yearning to protect.

How could you hate your equals?

“I’m sorry - and at the same time, happy.” The ambiguity of her speech could be confusing at first, since her train of thought wasn’t very clear. A mixture of sadness and hope painted her expression while she got closer to Kanae. Maybe a dangerous decision, considering the situation. However, she trusted that the ghoul wouldn’t hurt her; not anymore. “You lost your family, but you’re not alone. You found someone to care about. Someone that is worth to protect. And that makes me happy. You’re not lonely anymore.”

She didn’t knew if he was going to accept it, such kind of approach. But the blonde one just couldn’t help herself - his pain was so similar to hers that she felt an urge to confort him. And, more than that: the human knew how was the desire to protect someone after being alone for far too long.
