a long-awaited intro post...
happy start to the new year, sailors! scylla here :)
thanks for your patience while i've slowly gotten this blog up and running. going from Terror Camp to finals week to holiday festivities and travel made me crash, hard. still recovering a bit from it, but i didn't want too many digital cobwebs to crop up here, either...
under the cut, you'll find some basic introductory stuff, and a teaser of what i have planned for 2026! <3
𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙷𝙼𝚂 𝚘𝚕𝚏𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚓𝚎𝚌𝚝?
this post-series-turned-poster-turned-sideblog explores a few things: how we attach characteristics/memories/people/beloved pieces of media to scents; the history of the fragrance industry; and the ability for something as small as a bottle of perfume to be a form of adaptation.
the "meat and potatoes" of this project is picking scents and creating fragrance profiles for the terror characters, linking the fragrance choices to their respective arcs, traits, and so on. if you want a glimpse of the fragrance picks so far, feel free to check out the project's Terror Camp poster, and the link on the poster to the project's Canva slide deck.
(btw: there are also earlier versions of the project floating around here. i'm not linking those on this blog - see subsequent sections of the intro below for my reasoning - but i'm not deleting them quite yet, either.)
𝚠𝚑𝚢 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚗𝚎𝚠 𝚜𝚒𝚍𝚎𝚋𝚕𝚘𝚐?
i had a few reasons for this -- the main one being that i wanted a bit of a separation of church and state re: my primary blog, and this project. i figured a sideblog would serve as an easier access point for folks as far as content goes, instead of sifting through my unhinged mess of a personal blog to get to it. this space also allows for more formal engagement with fandom going forward, which is a goal of mine for future project work!
speaking of...
𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝'𝚜 𝚒𝚗 𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚓𝚎𝚌𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚢𝚎𝚊𝚛?
revisions to the original post series that led to this blog. i want to revisit the characters i selected fragrances for last year to add more detail, more community input, and more scents in general. the original posts will be retired or removed in some capacity (either through deleting them, or turning off reblogs) once they've been updated and accounted for here.
as mentioned previously: more (and more structured) fandom community input. i have at least one larger poll series related to scents and characters that i'm cooking up. in general, though, i want to hear more of what others think of (smell?) when it comes to scents, and their favorite characters.
content specifically focused on fragrance practices and perfume history around the time of the Franklin Expedition. still brainstorming what this flavor of content will look and feel like, but i think there are fun details to share when it comes to how the perfume industry was changing in the 19th century, and exploring fragrance/hygiene practices at the time. (plus, i know how much this fandom adores historical content and context...)
fragrance selections for not just individual characters, but character dynamics + relationships. there is so much to work with when attaching scents to individual characters in the terror thanks to the brilliant work of the cast, creators, and crew of the show; however, i would be doing the show a disservice if i didn't highlight the bonds between these characters through scent as well, in my opinion. depending on how far i get with posts this year, i may also branch into the show's environment, and more abstract concepts.
and other things, probably. DEFINITELY promoting other terror + scent/cologne/perfume-related takes and content out there, at the very least. stay tuned!
𝚑𝚘𝚠 𝚏𝚛𝚎𝚚𝚞𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚕𝚢 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚋𝚕𝚘𝚐 𝚋𝚎 𝚞𝚙𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚍?
i would also like to know the answer to this question. HA. in all seriousness, though, i won't be holding myself to a specific posting schedule. this is a passion project of mine that i'm attempting to keep up with while being in a phd program full-time, so all i ask is for patience and flexibility while i curate a vibe and whip up posts over here.
𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚏 𝚒 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚌𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌 𝚘𝚕𝚏𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢 𝚑𝚘𝚝 𝚝𝚊𝚔𝚎𝚜 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚛𝚘𝚛 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚜 / 𝚜𝚌𝚎𝚗𝚝 𝚛𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜?
please please PLEASE reach out! send an ask! send a DM! reach out here, or on my personal blog if you know it! shitpost-y and serious thoughts welcome.
that's all for now, but thank to you everyone and anyone remotely interested in this project! looking forward to fixating on scents with y'all. xo
