@cherilynde
Shoutout to White Collar for being the one fandom that seems to be able to get me to (somewhat) consistently put words down on a page.
Man, if only!
not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.
When you make one(1) good thing and then you’re scared you’ll never make anything decent ever again.
And then, when you can't make another good thing, you start wondering if the first good thing was really good at all, and then you're just stuck. You didn't want to ride the coattails of whatever glory days you had, but you sure as hell don't want to give up the glory entirely.

Teddy Hollins, a one-off guest character in Hardcastle and McCormick, a mostly forgotten 80s action show. Man, I loved that guy!
To all the fanfiction writers on my dash...
…or future fic writers (those who are working on something to post for the future OR working on in private) or those who have retired from fanfiction but have posted it in the past, thank you so much!
It doesn’t matter if the fic isn’t from the fandoms I don’t participate in or read, or if it’s pairings I don’t ship, or even if it’s gen fic and not shippy, thank you so much for your work!
You all have shared so much of yourself in your writing and we are blessed to have seen the work that has come from your heart. Even if you don’t think it’s your best work, or even if you don’t think it’s the best compared to others, you took the time to create this thing and share it to the world and for that you deserve all credit for making that time and courage to share it with us!
Even you authors who are working on things but haven’t posted them yet! You have made the decision to post things that are coming from your heart in the future and I will tell you SOMEONE out there will appreciate all that hard work you have put in and appreciate what you have to write. Thank you for making that decision to take that step with us.
And to you retired fic writers, thank you for sharing that work with us even if fic writing is not your speed anymore for whatever reason. Your works have been cherished by someone out there, even if that person is anonymous and did not comment, and you deserve to be acknowledged for letting us have the privilege to see that for however brief a time.
Just THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
All of you, keep doing what you love.
Opposite of an Intellectual
“The opposite of an intellectual… you really think you could do that, Caffrey?” Jones asked, reading through the cover description.
“Do what?” Neal responded, blinking at them in confusion. Instead of the overly innocent smile that would usually accompany a question like that from Neal, his face was just blank curiosity. It seemed that for once the con man wasn’t messing with them; he just hadn’t been paying attention.
“Be the opposite of an intellectual,” Diana repeated for him with an incredulous chuckle.
Neal’s brows furrowed lightly in confusion. ‘What’s an… intellectual?” he asked, seeming to struggle to recall the word.
Diana scrutinized him, but despite all the years she had spent working with Neal Caffrey, she couldn’t find a single tell that he was lying. By all appearances, Neal Caffrey genuinely did not know the word ‘intellectual.’
“On second thought, that’s kinda scary,” Jones decided, taking an unconscious step backwards. “Please stop.”
Neal finally broke, giving them a devious grin and a theatrical bow. Diana had to admit, seeing firsthand how convincingly Neal could become someone diametrically opposed to his actual self was a bit terrifying. The short demonstration had left her heart pounding and breathing slightly shallow.
“Remember this the next time you doubt me,” Neal warned cheerfully, winking at them before sauntering away. Diana and Jones looked at each other once he was gone.
“That was scary, right?” Jones asked.
“Yeah,” Diana confirmed, “that was definitely scary.”
Then an idea hit her. “I wanna see Peter’s reaction!”
There is a fine line between reading an excellent fic and being like
“That was so good, I’m inspired to write more!!” 🤩
And
“That was so good, I never want to write again!” 😭
Well isn't that a mood?

You’re insubordinate, you never do what I tell you to do, and every time I turn my back you’re off doing who-knows-what with god-knows who!
Seriously gonna write a fic one of these days called A Glossy Smile and Annoying Little Hats. 😃🕵️
Had this conversation with @cherilynde and I now have a great need for Neal and Peter bears.
If someone made these, I would buy them immediately. 👀
I wouldn't sell my firstborn (not that anyone else would likely want a sullen 30-something, anyway!), but I would shell out ridiculous amounts of hard-earned cash for such a thing! I already have dozens upon dozens of teddy bears in my home from through the years, but I guarantee these two would never be relegated to attic storage!

Hello and welcome to our second annual Flufftober 🥳
We’re so excited to be back and to once again have you here!
Let’s fill the month of October with as much fluff as possible 🥰
You’ll find the entire prompt list - as well as a list of prompt substitutes! - at the end of this post so you can easily copy/paste it all. But first:
Rules & FAQ
No inc*st or p*dophilia - we can’t keep you from writing it or creating art for it but it won’t be reblogged.
No hate or ship bashing - we’re all different and we all love different things. As long as it doesn’t go against rule #1, it’s allowed.
Tag correctly! Trigger warnings (including cheating!), ships, ratings, (pure) smut, etc - it’s all fine as long as you tag it.
There’s absolutely no word count restriction, write as little or as much as you like.
In regards to art, anything goes: drawings, paintings, collages, mood boards, gifsets, videos, playlists… the sky’s the limit (though not really…)
While we can’t force you to write fluff or create fluffy art, please try to keep in mind that this is a fluff event 😉
You can start writing and/or arting as soon as you see this - but please refrain from posting before the respective day.
You can participate on as many days as you like, even if it’s just one; you can also create multiple entries for the same day.
NEW this year are our prompt substitutes! These are the five most loved prompts from the previous year, and you can use as many of them as you like instead of five prompts from the original list - or even in addition, that's completely up to you.
It’s okay to write one story/a series for all the prompts as long as it’s separated into chapters and the respective chapter/work is posted on the given day.
You do not have to stick to one ship or even one fandom - switch as often as you like to or even write for multiple ships for one day.
The ship does not have to be a romantic one! Friendship and family feels are more than welcome (but this is not a way to get around rule #1!)
This event can be combined with other events as long as the other event allows it.
Late entries are always welcome, even if it is months later.
All fandoms and ships are welcome - fanon and canon - as long as they’re of age (in case you want to add smut) and not related.
As someone who still needs lots of practice with the fluffier side of things, I might have to give one or two of these a try.
Bc it’s what I do…
… Going back over s1 again and. I just. Forever love the way they came swinging w/ the found family right out of the gate. That whole sequence in 1x04 where Peter is sending Neal to get files, and then he walks in on Peter and El disagreeing, trying to run away, only to get dragged in and have both of them trying to make him side w/ them… That is soooo getting caught up in your parents disagreements. It’s one of the many times he gets the bug eyed, panicked look of a teenager interrupting his parents.
So much this. Neal hasn't quite been fully adopted yet, but he's clearly already got the inside track.
Do regular commenters know just how valued they are? I mean, obviously ALL commenters are valued, but as a fic writer when you’ve got a group of familiar usernames and profile pics who pop up again and again like old friends to share their thoughts and appreciation on one of your fics, that’s so special. I hope my regular commenters know that I remember them, and I recognise them each time they come back, and I am so incredibly grateful for them not only leaving comments, but leaving them time and time again. I hope they know they’re making someone, somewhere, smile.
This is the truest thing I've read in a while. Regular commenters and binge readers, those people are like manna from heaven.

Awww, TOGETHER is right! 💖💖
Is there anything better for National Best Friends Day? No, no there is not.
