Eboni’s anxiety and fear were forgotten in an instant with that enquiry. She turned to glare at the stranger, though all of her hatred and anger was aimed towards the coven who had imprisoned her for years. “No. My parents are nice people, and they never would have hurt me!”
The air started to crackle with raw, arcane energy as her emotions started to overwhelm her. “I don’t know how they’d take knowing what I am, but I know they wouldn’t lie to me! Lock me up like some freak and forbid me from going outside! Threatening to hurt the only friend I’ve had in five goddamn years, just to control me!” The glass around them started to vibrate, threatening to shatter any second, but Eboni was not willingly causing the effect.
Careful. You’re losing control.
Hearing her familiar’s warning resonating in her mind, Eboni willed herself to calm down with a few deep breaths. The vibrating stopped, and the crackle faded. Though this man was a stranger to her, Eboni did not wish to get him hurt just for being the first person in so long to treat her kindly.
All right, that was definitely not the question to ask. Bobby opened his mouth to apologise, but before he could get a single word out, an eldritch sensation swept over him and the truck started to vibrate as she vented at him.
“Okay - easy, easy!” he said, raising a hand instinctively to shield himself, though there was no defending against magic that easily. “It’s okay.”
As she calmed down, he let out a shaky breath, coming to a few conclusions as to what the hell was going on here, and managed a brief smile. “I get it, these folks weren’t good to ya,” he said gently. “Just be careful, okay? This old junker o’ mine ain’t that tough. Like I said, we’ll eat an’ then you can explain. What d’you want me to order?”
They were just about to pull into the empty drive-thru.
This man, this stranger was kind and Edgar seemed to think he was safe. Those raven instincts had never failed her before, so why stop trusting them now? “I’m sorry,” she muttered, then bowed her head which caused her long, black hair to fall down and hide her face. But as she asked what she wanted, she slowly peeked out from behind her long locks and looked to her familiar for guidance. Edgar just nodded in encouragement. “I-I don’t know...I haven’t been to one of these places for a while.” She hugged her knees to her chest as tightly as she could and stared out of her window. “Could I get a burger and fries, please?” she asked timidly. “Any burger...”
