Among the many reasons I am clawing my life back from Google.
Everything that is typically rented can and should be collectively owned instead. Not in some hypothetical “post-revolution” but right damn now
People who already rent or would like to collectively own pool their resources, either (preferably) the material goods in question or else money to buy them
The goods are collected and, if need be, stored somewhere for use by the customer-owners
If fees need to be collected (for maintenance/repair/replacement, or fuel, or to pay off loans that were taken out to buy the good) they are managed by the customer-owners democratically. Any excess profit is either used to expand the offered services or donated to other local orgs (e.g. Food Not Bombs, community gardens, etc)
This model has been applied to everything from tools to cars to housing and it works great. And if money needs to be collected (rather than surviving solely on donations), the rates are much, much lower than conventional rental services because none of it is going to line the pockets of some bourgeois whose only contribution was having the money to buy up something that people need
Everyone Is Cheating Their Way Through College
sounds very similar to a radio story i heard in 2014 ago about credit card debt. the debt got sold to a collection company and a couple received a court summons. they knew they had taken on debt, but they were confused about who this new company was and where specifically the number they were supposed to owe came from.
they show up in court and just ask the lawyer for the collection company: can you prove where this number comes from? Do you have a contract showing that you purchased our debt? probably luckily for them, a reporter researching a book on the topic showed up and asked the same questions.
10 minutes later they get in front of the judge and the collection company drops the whole case and theyre free to go. story is below, it has a transcript in the link too

Langston Hughes: Beaumont to Detroit (1943)
Looky here, America What you done done – Let things drift Until the riots come

You tell me mussolini’s Got an evil heart. Well, it mus-a been in Beaumont That he had his start –
Cause everything that hitler And mussolini do Negroes get the same Treatment from you
You jim crowed me Before hitler rose to power – And you’re still jim crowing me Right now, this very hour.
Yet you say we’re fightin For democracy. Then why don’t democracy Include me?
I ask you this question Cause I want to know How long I got to fight BOTH HITLER – AND JIM CROW.

in the contemporary world, the most fundamental human right - and, it often seems, the least protected one - is "being both Allowed and Able to go Somewhere Else." the rest is commentary.
the torments of prison are predicated on Not Letting You Leave. the most terrifying and degrading aspects of childhood are predicated on Not Letting You Leave. misogynists wail and moan and fearmonger about divorce and equal opportunity employment because they Allow Wife To Leave. borders and immigration restrictions exist, in no small part, to Prevent People From Leaving countries where they will be exploited and/or oppressed. fuck you for trying to leave. fuck you for exerting any control over your life whatsoever. that makes you the one at fault, actually.
david graeber described three fundamental freedoms: freedom to move, freedom to disobey orders, and freedom to reorganize social relations
fundamental human right

I use firefox on both my phone and my laptop, but I'm bracing for something REALLY BAD to happen. Nothing good ever lasts anymore, everything eventuslly makes a turn for the worse, especially when it's been hyped up as The Good Alternative™. Amazon or google or facebook is gonna buy it and start selling user data to corporations and cops.
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop; it's coming sooner or later, I can feel it in my bones.
🎵FUCKIN CALLED IT, BABY🎵
They literally failed step one.
I'm ready to unplug. I'm ready to go offline for good. I'm so tired...
A custom version of Firefox, focused on privacy, security and freedom.
keep the base, ditch all the new shit they wanna do?
Wow to unlock the secret librarian dialogue you really just have to go up and insult James Patterson, huh? Is this a universal password? It’s worked on every librarian I’ve ever met
I can't find the post where you insult James Patterson and I really want to know what you said
No I literally went up to a librarian irl and said “I didn’t know there was so much James Patterson in the world and I would like to unknow it please” and not only did I get her full undivided attention but another librarian also stopped what she was doing and came over too
One of the first victims of Epstein to speak out was a Latina transgender girl, Ava Cordero. She was sixteen when she was lured to Epstein’s apartment under the guise of helping her career in modeling. Ava Cordero was mocked, belittled, and denied by the media, her transness somehow overshadowing her status as a victim of assault. The media (Dareh Gregorian and Lucy Carne of the New York Post) specifically somehow spun it as Epstein being a victim of the case and treated her claims as an attempt to defame Epstein. Mind you, the journalists, Epstein’s lawyer (Gerald Lefcourt), and Epstein himself, were able to get away with this specifically because she was a transgender woman.
One of the first people to publicly accuse Jeffrey Epstein of abuse was a trans woman, Ava Cordero – she was mocked for it.

i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.
as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”
small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.
i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.
If a ceasefire holds, you boycott Israel HARDER, you divest, you push for sanctions. You don't perform for apartheid. You don't whitewash genocide. You don't pretend like Israel isn't still a violent occupier stealing land and collectively punishing Palestinians daily
🎶Genocidal whitewash! Fuck apartheid!🎵
