sodapop curtis who physically cannot sleep without hugging something. in his childhood it was his teddy bear, or on nights when he had nightmares, he would crawl into bed with his parents and hold onto his mom for dear life. after an especially long day at work, he would sometimes fall asleep on the couch while still tightly holding onto sandy. every night after their parents’ deaths, sodapop clung onto ponyboy. with soda’s company, ponyboy was finally able to sleep through the whole night. and it felt nice to be beside his little brother.

after darry had hit ponyboy, and he dashed out, sleep was obviously a lost cause. if he wasn’t pacing around the house, waiting desperately with darry for a phone call or somene to walk through the door or anything, he would finally fall asleep with his arms wrapped tightly around ponyboys pillow, the smell of his shampoo still lingering. the younger boy’s lack of presence was obviously still notable, but it helped for sodapop to fill the absence with something.
