It’s been a wild ride. Happy final 413 everyone! I’m not so much into Homestuck anymore, but I still feel a lot of pride when I talk to people at cons and, to this day, they say they found a tutorial for their cosplay on this blog. When I made it all those years ago I never thought it would be as big, or as crucial, as it became, but i’m glad that it’s still getting use and people still appreciate it.

Of course, the tagging system and the fact that this site can be navigated as an archive is pretty much exclusively thanks to my co-mod @pyreclaws, who deserves just as much credit for homestuckcosplayhelp being the staple it was in the fandom, and continues to be.

Okay!  

I’ve received so many questions about how I made this arm.  I got the idea from this lovely robo arm and as it turned out, she also used the same base pattern that I had planned to (Edward Elric’s automail arm).

Basically what I did was take the pattern and heavily alter the arm pieces while keeping the hand mostly the same.  I used mostly craft foam combined with leftover styrene I had from a different prop project, and three different size brads (from the scrap-booking section of Michaels). I glued everything together with high temp hot glue, but I sealed the finger pieces with e6000 at the seams to ensure that they wouldn’t pop open in hot weather.  Once I had all my parts glued together, I coated them in about seven layers of Mod Podge cut by half with water.  Once this was done, I coated all pieces in Plasti-Dip spray (it’s a rubber coating that you can get at Home Depot near where the spray paint is).  Since I wanted the arm to ultimately look used and abused, I made sure my spray wasn’t perfectly even - just don’t overspray or you’ll lose some of your detail.  When this was dry, I added the brads and painted over them with black acrylic paint.  

I covered each piece first with silver Rub n Buff - again, acquired at Michael’s.  Then I did washes and dry brush layers of black, brown, and orange with some additional green Rub n Buff antiquing wax.  I started with the idea of making the rust look natural but got lazy halfway through.  

The forearm closes with velcro, hot glued in place.  The upper arm doesn’t open, it just slides on and stays.  I accidentally made the arm smaller than I’d wanted to so it’s a tight enough fit that the pieces don’t slide around.  The wiring between the joints is held in with duct tape, and only attached at one end, so it moves in and out as I flex my arm and wrist.  The hand piece slides on.  I wore a full-arm length glove under the arm to improve the aesthetic and for comfort.

it looks really good after looking at refrences of Feferi (since i thought of her when i saw this) the bang may be problematic but its about whats your own headcanon and such! (you can always style it) It costs $29.79. I havent tried it myself, but it seems pretty good!

Roxy Wig

I ordered This wig http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blonde-Wig-Straight-with-Bangs-WGJF03-/320991928385 For my roxy cosplay. It arrived in only a few days and looked great right out of the box! It was much lighter and quite shorter than expected. But, i believe it was so short because i have alot of hair. Overall A+ wig. I would reccomend, especially if you need a roxy wig FAST.

Bathrooms and Disposable Gloves

At some point during a con or cosplay, YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM, but if your arms/hands are covered in makeup/armsocks that you can't take off you will be stuck with soiled hands the rest of the day. Nobody wants fecal matter or urine on  their body. You will smell disgusting and be a major health risk.

The solution: bring disposable latex gloves to put on then throw them away when your done! Your hands stay clean and you don't have to reapply makeup/clothes! Get the one-wear kind doctors or lunch ladies wear, do not get dish gloves they are really expensive per pair!

I come to tell you guys about Mehron Colour Creamlend Stick! http://www.mehron.com/HYPERFORMANCE_CreamBlend_p/400.htm

This stuff is a miracle. I learned about it from my friend (who uses white to cosplay Animaniacs). It comes in a tube and is REALLY easy to rub/blend in. All you literally need to do is rub a VERY small portion on the areas where you want to be grey and then just... rub/spread the makeup. It its very easy to use. It took me literally 30 seconds to cover my entire hand and less than 5 mins to cover my face, and it feels nive on your skin. And, when you wanna wash it off, theres next to no residue. Also, its SUPER cheap.

I got mine on ebay for 9 bucks, free shipping. The Light Grey is perfect and requires 0 mixing, however this makeup is VERY good for blending if you wanna blend in blush for your characters. Also, they WHITE is amazing. Unlike Ben Nye, which is slightly translucent and makes you look like a Cullen (which is great if you wanna do a vampire/zombie), the Mehron white is opaque and doesnt show your skin under, so its perfect for rainbow drinkers and gamzees (if you apply it with a makeup brush).

I only did a test run and plan to use this at fanime. Again: Cheap, SUPER fast to apply, and has the perfect colour.

Model Magic for European Countries

I was searching for somewhere on ebay to get some model magic for horns (since i have heard so much great things about it!) and since i live in Europe (aka Norway) its extremly hard finding someone who ships to Europe and in my search i found this!

Pretty Swell Roxy wig

While I was cruising ebay for a dave wig I found this pretty swell base wig for Roxy. It's apparently a tiger and bunny wig and I've bought from these guys before, they're pretty awesome!

Empress Wig

Five Wits Wigs!

I haven't personally bought from them myself, but I've heard very good things about The Five Wits Wigs! Looking at their selection, they seem to offer some great wigs. They are a bit more pricey than, say, ebay, but they're based in the U.S. and that makes them all the more reliable. In particular, they have a pretty good wig for Roxy and detachable Meenah braids! Body suits on amazon

So I'm into crafts and my gamzee torns were weak because i accidently made them to thin. I put this stuff on it called Triple Thick and not only did my horns become sturdier they became shiny! You can buy this at micheals craft store and JoAnn fabrics.The only down side of using this is when my horns were drying one of them fell and when i picked it up some of the paint peeled off, but that was about it. I will post a picture of my horns too.
