Lawstrade headcanons PLSSSSSS
WELL SINCE U ASKED SO NICELY.......
I like to think Strade is the driving force in the "relationship." Does he think of Lawrence as a boyfriend? No! But this bull of a man will do whatever he asks him to as long as they're "together." That being said, Strade isn't bothered by his presence. He's a good sport. Real interesting guy to try and decipher.
This isn't exactly a symptom of having Strade as a partner specifically, but Law would be so intimidated to be in a relationship. Especially with a well-educated, generous, sincere man like Strade... The pressure was on to the a "good boyfriend." He plays it safe at first. Good morning and night texts he takes too seriously, carrying in the groceries, fetching things for him... Protecting him during his dirty work.
Strade knows Lawrence wants to be good for him, so he rides off it often. Small favors and a smile to keep him motivated, and luckily for him, this motivation encourages Law to abandon himself. He is often uncomfortable or overwhelmed with things Strade is asking or doing, but because he needs to be a good boyfriend, he allows it to happen. This can only continue for so long until Lawrence's small amount of patience runs out.
He's a good boyfriend. He needs one, too. Strade owes him for all his time and labor. It really is a time limit until Lawrence acts out to take what he can't communicate he wants and needs. Giving him bad tea so he can see this man's body without struggle.... in and out. Or smashing him over the head and having to wrestle him down when Strade wakes up to an aching body and a rocking bed. Or throwing all his own favors back in his face- "Don't you want to be a good boyfriend?" "This is what significant others do." "This is just... a couples thing." while actively taking advantage of this man or may or may not be in proper mind to consent or fight back.
Then, suddenly, when Strade's control was taken away, the situation has changed. He's impressed! The memory of whatever incident is exciting, even arousing- but it's dangerous, and he can't put himself in positions like that. Lawrence, however, is like a cockroach. Strade is his boyfriend. He needs to be there for his boyfriend. He's not going away easily, and...
Strade is scared. Law is so meek, but he's seen him. He's bigger than him. Arguably stronger than him. He won't leave him alone. He's finding him inside his home because he lets himself in, and makes sure he knows "I'm allowed to know you're okay. You haven't texted me, so I came to check. How are you?" This man can seriously hurt him above ways even he's capable of. He brought up the concept of breaking up once, and he saw how Lawrence tensed. How his teeth grit. How he vehemently disagreed that couples can or should just break-up. Strade even sees the way he disagrees with Ren being in the home, being overly competitive, or snarky, or standoffish with him for little to no reason- not to mention how hyperreactive he is. Lawrence is a fuse about to pop, and there's nothing Strade can do about it.
Nothing he necessarily wants to do. But he's becoming a problem... He's so cute, he's so sexy, he's so useful, but Strade refuses to live under supervision. He's been good to him for the most part! Law's given his all to him, gone out of his way to make sure he's been alright. Unfortunately, there's still one thing he'd like Law to do for him. Smile for the camera.
Of course, that's before he realizes Law... can't die. After that, I feel he'd take that "break-up" away right away. He can stay! He can stay, and they can play over, and over, and over again. Something Law... doesn't entirely hate because of the sheer amount of inhumane passion and intimacy found in those moments. He feels like someone finally, truly understands him. In some way.
