Here’s the thing, if they wanted to do the storyline where Kato’s life has been affected by drug addiction, why didn’t they do that storyline? Why was it that that experience turned her into an unapologetic racist? And why do they think that having that traumatic history justifies racist thoughts and actions?

As someone whose entire life has been touched by someone else’s addiction, i can say that it does impact you. It impacts everyone differently. It might make it hard for you to trust people because you’re worried you’ll lose them. It might make it hard for you to be around people who partake in those same behaviors as the person who hurt you because of flashbacks, and this might hurt your ability to make and keep friendships. It might tear you down to your core and keep you up at night because even though you hate the one who hurt you for hurting you, you can’t blame them for their addictions and it eats you up inside. You might blame yourself because you feel like you could’ve done more. It might rearrange your entire life. It rearranged mine.

But it does not excuse racism. It does not give you a free pass to judge and discriminate against others based off of stereotypes and prejudices you’ve created in your mind. I just don’t understand what they were even thinking when they wrote this season.

Sorry to go off, but this has actually been hurting me deeply to watch.
