Had to go back and clip this moment from the charge game earlier as it made me laugh. Barnes punches MrĂĄzovĂĄ, and then when she falls down, Barnes shrugs like "what did i do?" and starts to skate away only to get punched back by MrĂĄzovĂĄ.
They both ended up in the box for 2 minutes as a result. đ
I'm so normal about her...

you will hear zero complaints from me about increasingly explicit gay pornography being incorporated into âmainstreamâ tv shows but what i will call for is a corresponding increase in explicit lesbian sex. i want dykes crawling around on their hands and knees begging to eat pussy on every tv screen in america. worldwide, even

Shitty headline, because valid criticism of bad behavior is not "villification." But I do think the article is good. I think something a lot of fans on here should really reflect on is the point made about the double standard of how they react to the NHL doing problematic shit vs. the PWHL. (I side eye the hell out of the blogs on here that say they won't watch the PWHL because they're problematic and then have NHL shit all over their blogs.)
Some local additional context I want to throw in:
The article mentions a fundraiser at a local women's sports bar. The bar is owned by a queer woman, and very loudly advocates for trans people in sports. I think the fundraiser was for their A Fund Of Their Own, which raises money for girls and women in sports. There is no universe where that doesn't include trans women for that organization. They're the ones who initially shared that petition to WHAM I shared last year that demanded they not exclude trans women from Minnesota hockey. Make what associations and assumptions about that as you will.
The article mentions positive interactions with LGBTQ+ fans locally, and that is something I've heard about from local queer fans as well, including a couple of trans women. đ€· Haven't had them myself because I haven't run into her.
I'm not telling anyone how to feel. Curl, or anyone, even hesitating on the "fairness in sports" issue is harmful as hell, particularly to trans women, or even cis women who don't meet white western beauty standards. Full stop.
I'll also point out that if 66% of Americans have the same uncertainty or worse (and from what I can find, the Canadian numbers are not a lot better,) that the odds of the other teams having folks with similar views is very high, and maybe a more constructive road to take than booing a player who got caught for her average crappy views (or considering she's from non-Fargo North Dakota, better than average đ« ) would be to ask the league where their gender inclusion policy is. And fight local policies and access issues that are preventing trans people from even making it to the point of being considered for professional play. Y'know, address the systematic issues. And maybe you're doing both, which ok, that's cool if so.
Cuz I'll be honest, as a trans person, watching cis gays or non queer people cheer about someone's head getting knocked off for her "homophobia" mostly just makes me sigh heavily that the cis gays are at it again making it all about themselves. (Not because I particularly care about her head, but because Curl's queerphobic stuff has always been pretty squarely aimed at trans women. Not "homophobia.") Or to the more extreme place if I've felt excluded from queer spaces for... Liking the hockey team associated with my geography? My very very queer friendly geography?
Idk. I'm asking the people in this fandom who consider themselves trans allies to think about if what they're doing is actually allyship or if they're really just jerking themselves off and to be honest about it. (Jerking off is fine and part of sports fandom. But don't tell me you're doing it to help trans people lmao.)
And you don't have to stop being a hater of any player or team, just be real about the why and stop attaching over the top moral gymnastics to it that then makes the space weird for some of the people you're ostensibly trying to welcome.
My take, as a trans woman and a fan of the league? It was a puff piece in a terf-friendly paper. It hit all the greatest hits of 'someone who isn't maga and gets busted doing something queerphobic, so wants to rehab their image' (reflecting, talking to 'people', going to a generic queer event).
Is she genuine? Who the hell knows. Does the league want this swept under the rug? Clearly. Is the PWHL going to move heaven and earth to not address trans women players - at least until this presidential admin is gone? Most definitely. Is any major league any better? Not really.
Basically until my ass hears 'trans women are women', I'm going to assume she hasn't changed. Mostly, I'm tired of every single game she's in turning into an argument about her views. She plays dumb and dirty, and just like when it was a player on my team (Babstock), I want her out until she can control that shit.
And, look, I'm not dumb enough to miss that she's getting targeted by other players. My response: maybe don't post homophobic shit when you're about to play in a contact sport with a bunch of lesbians, bozo.
I do think it's a pity that most Frost fans in here have to caveat every fucking post about their team because of Curl, and I hope the rest of the fandom gives y'all some grace. (But also, like... you won the first and second seasons. You should know that you're kind of going to be heels until you lose some. But also it shouldn't be treated as a moral failing to cheer for them.)
Meanwhile, the girls:
âGood for her.â
