bc the Xianzhou is canonically racist/xenophobic see: yingxing being discriminated against in the artisanship commission, every bit of lore we get on the borisin (tho there's also authorial racism w the borisin but that's it's own post)

there's also the fact that Xianzhou natives (seemingly the dominant cultural group) cannot modify their bodies without the changes being painfully reverted to their original state. in canon we can see this manifest in ableism see: the blind woman in that one quest (dan shu I think?). and I would argue that this belief would also manifest in transphobia (also see: "look at what they did to dan feng and dan heng in immediate succession")

interestingly they do not seem to be misogynistic, with women occupying leadership positions and entering the military in equal/greater numbers to men. the clothing differences could imply gender roles to an extent however that is also just how hoyoverse designs female characters and is likely not a deliberate worldbuilding choice.

one could argue that the Xianzhou being a militaristic culture would lead to an enforcement of heterosexuality to provide children who will become future soldiers, however, there's also the factor that the Xianzhou's endless war is a means of population control for a species that does not die of natural causes.

so. you can see why im a bit conflicted on this.

AND this is this the Xianzhou natives it's entirely possible that the foxians and vidyadhara have different views.

#i was thinking the militarism as a factor for homophobia in the same way american football is #rather than them needing more bodies #since historically male things that involve violence tend to be both violently misogynistic and homophobic #i imagine theres a lot of pressure to conform #and theres social consequences for the failure to do so #queerness isnt the majority #so. social hegemony. heterosexuality as the default for the ideal to conform to because its the majority

I said himeko/kafka bc 1) I think the rpf would have discourse about the ages of the younger express members and whether shipping them was ethical or not and 2) AE/Stellaron Hunter RPF is absolutely a thing. I think every Hunter has an assigned AE ship the same way every Superman has an assigned Batman ship.
