You know thinking back on it it's absolutely batshit insane that the take Lindsay Ellis got cancelled for was "Raya and the Last Dragon cribs heavily from Avatar: The Last Airbender" when she's said in no uncertain terms that she doesn't like The Prince of Egypt, literally one of the most universally beloved movies of all time like yes I know it wasn't really about the quality of the movie it was about her being white a criticizing a movie that's about Asian people by comparing it to another piece of media about Asian people but like objectively it was also an extremely lukewarm opinion

it's also like, she's jewish. iirc her issues with it stemmed from the parts that aren't accurate to the exodus. she's not part of the groups that raya or avatar are about, but she is part of the group that prince of egypt is about. that movie is about jews and a jewish story, and what 21st century racial category they end up in due to their appearance is not the critical element here. she's a jew criticizing the appropriation of one of our stories. as a different jew, I personally love prince of egypt and think it's a really good adaptation, but she's still allowed to have her opinion!

I just think people attacking her for her prince of egypt opinions by saying that what happened was "white woman criticizes brown story" and not "jewish person criticizes appropriated jewish story" is a deliberately false and obfuscating way to frame it. (to be clear I am not upset with you, minerva doublecast, and I don't think you're a bad person, I think the lindsey ellis haters suck and also agree with you that this whole situation was incredibly stupid)
