Something for the martyr autism-hating moms who will start whining on Christmas…
Your child’s autism didn’t ruin Christmas. You ruined Christmas for your autistic child by forcing them into situations they can’t handle and wondering why they had a huge meltdown.
Autism doesn’t ruin Christmas. People who refuse to understand it do.
Learn this people. Pretty sure all three kids fall on the spectrum, but used to get so frustrated on HOW difficult they got on special days. Should have been a clue. So, your kid is being overstimulated and acting out? STOP AND SEE IT FROM THEIR VIEWPOINT!
AH YES, IN THIS THE SEASON OF BRIGHT COLORS, NEON FLASHING LIGHTS, METALLIC JINGLING, CROWDS OF STRANGERS, SOCIALLY OBLIGATORY PHYSICAL CONTACT, AND ITCHY, HOT, HEAVY RESTRICTIVE CLOTHING
dear tweens and teens: please dont equate “self care” with buying a bunch of useless shit because some shill account on instagram told you to. any type of “self care” that involves consumerism is snake oil and a better way to care for yourself and build your personal self worth is through self actualizing activities i.e. go make art, go plant trees, go volunteer for a food bank, go organize!!!
recovery is not ‘soon i will be untouched, perfect, and in a permanent state of bliss. i will be healed and all will be well, forever.’
recovery is ‘i will continue to survive despite what happens, i will find ways to cope instead of continually tearing myself down. i will recover and will see myself in a light that i never thought was possible.’
Reminded of this excerpt from Getting Through the Day: Strategies for Adults Hurt as Children by Nancy J. Napier: “It also helps to remember that healing occurs in a spiral. We swing around again and again to the same old issues, but at different turns of the spiral. Each time we confront a similar feeling or reaction we have yet another opportunity to learn and to heal. Each time, we bring with us whatever new understanding we have gained since the last time we cycled through this particular difficulty.”

“I’VE BEEN ATTACKED”
I cannot recreate my past. It has happened. But, that doesn’t mean that tomorrow isn’t still coming. That doesn’t mean that the beauty of another day doesn’t still await me.
