the culprit for silent spy saying 'because i want to. because i can' as a motive gets insulted but i've never understood why. sometimes people really just do things because they can. i don't feel like we really need to be spoonfed explanations about human greed or power or whatever. like we're 29 games in. we've heard it all already. it's okay

and come on. this is the whole reason the culprit is so scary. you can sit here and talk about them not having a motive but like. they obviously do. this whole thing gives them power. the fact that they focus in specifically on the fact that they're doing this because they can tells you a lot about them. especially with the message from revenant with personal information warning them about what they're doing--this person is under their thumb, they could be killed whenever, they're a bitter person who wants to exercise power over others because it makes them feel like they aren't quite so powerless. the important part is that they can do it. and if you spelled this all out in the game it'd just sound melodramatic and terrible but having them say 'because i can' as their reason is actually so fucking chilling

there are a lot of people who hurt others because they want to and have the capability to do so. you might know someone like that in real life (minus the whole terrorism angle). i do. These Things Happen

I LOVE the recurring theme of the power of the mind in the Nancy Drew games.

“A ghost doesn’t have to be real to haunt you.”

“If the human heart wants something to be true, does the mind have the power to make it true?”

“Young lady, I believe the human mind is capable of far more than we can ever imagine…”

Like yessss the games have a focus on science and rationality and logical explanations BUT 👆 we must not discount the magic that exists in the world if we believe in it.

what is the purpose to your life if you are a bossiny? devote all your time to learning about ONE rich ass family, including their weird ass initiation ritual, puzzle solutions, and treasure just so you can train the next member of the family on the stuff you already know and play cryptic tech support for them as you watch them try to solve all the puzzles on their own??

How much are they getting paid for this to be worth it? How could a system that ridiculous last for centuries? Why have no bossinys ever just taken the stupid rock from the forge?

why is ethel just completely fine with being the b-plot in her own life story???

i'm sure nancy and ned were trying to be nice but if my guardian just died and i had to go leave college to deal with his estate, some random dude in one of my classes sending his girlfriend who i have never met to my house would not be a pick me up. honestly can't think of something i would like to deal with less in that moment than having to entertain some rando at my house that is to say nothing of her then embarking on a quest to collect all of my dead great uncle's glass eyes. like what the fuck. i'd be looking for a hidden camera bc surely that could not be real

Some more from one of my all time favorite ND games! Just love all the characters and the story (though it is a bit corny... still hits me in the feels a bit). But there's no horse bc I didn't have it in me to paint a horse, I'm sorry 😢

I did it in a Disco inspired style cause I wanted to go fckin crazy and just paint with no sketching. Plus, I wanted practice in drawing a more diverse cast than just like… hot woman, and figured Nancy Drew might be good practice. Next I wanna do Shadow Ranch 🤠
