Destroy the idea that sacrificing your health and wellbeing is a necessary part of academia.

It is okay to progress slowly in your target language! It is okay to take weeks to learn the alphabet! It is okay to take months to be able to string the simplest of sentences together! It is okay to take years to be able to have a full conversation in the language! We all learn at a different pace and that’s okay!

Another cute little 4koma gem published on the same site as Hedgehog Harry and many others.
Tofugu mentioned this comic in their ‘New learning resources’ post way back in March, and I’m so glad I finally read it, even though I wish I did this earlier.
The language in this one is pretty easy, grammar used is also fairly simple and straight-forward. There isn’t all that much text to begin with, some strips have nothing by sound effects. No difficult kanji either. I’d say that 80% (if not more) of vocab is covered by JLPT N5-N4, with N3 it would be a breeze.

‘It’s a pity but if you have no money I can’t give it to you’. Puns! 金「かね」 money =鐘「かね」 bell.
So, in conclusion, I think it’s a great chance for beginners to try their reading skills. This 4koma is very cute and pretty (i really love the colors) and makes for a nice relaxed read. Also, the first tankobon seems to be out, so please check it out!
最近授業終わった!17日イギリスに帰る。めちゃへんだよ。
Friendly reminder that you don’t have to strictly follow the language learning advice and tips you see online. You have your own circumstances, methods, and resources and that’s alright.

Japanese topsy-turvy words
Topsy-turvy… Yeah. Sounds dumb. IDK maybe there’s proper term for this. What I mean is a pair of words consisting of the same 2 kanji (with the same readings, mostly), only in a different order, like this:
日本 「にほん」 Japan 本日 「ほんじつ」 today
花火 「はなび」 fireworks 火花 「ひばな」 spark
一万 「いちまん」 ten thousands 万一 「まんいち」 unlikely event, one in 10.000 chance
会社 「かいしゃ」 company 社会 「しゃかい」 society
女子 「じょし」 girl 子女 「しじょ」 sons and daughters
父親 「ちちおや」 father 親父 「おやじ」 one’s father, old man
途中 「とちゅう」 on the way, midway 中途 「ちゅうと」 in the middle, half-way
階段 「かいだん」 stairs 段階 「だんかい」 level, phase
会議 「かいぎ」 conference, meeting 議会 「ぎかい」 congress, parliament
現実 「げんじつ」 reality, true fact 実現 「じつげん」 realization, materialization
海上 「かいじょう」 marine, by/at/on sea 上海 「しゃんはい」 Shanghai
苦痛 「くつう」 pain, agony 痛苦「つうく」 anguish
関連 「かんれん」 relation, relevance 連関 「れんかん」 relation, linkage
形象 「けいしょう」 shape, figure 象形 「しょうけい」 hieroglyphics
さしぶりですね、ごめんね。
皆んな元気ですか?
最近たくさん授業と宿題と試験とバイトがありました。とても忙しかったです。でも私の日本語はちっともっと上手になりました!
