Because someone wanted expositiony world building I guess my little corner of the internet gets words and stuff. For everyone else's context, it's Miraculous Ladybug x Dredge

Siobhan tore into the steak like it had personally offended her before she swallowed and raised an eyebrow. "That's what you want our question to be?

"Well yeah. See I did a bunch of reading and even Codd isn't that old. Relatively I mean. Did you know some reptile wielders can live to 150??"

"If you tell me there's a holder named Crush who calls people "dude" and talks about the "big old blue", one of your arms is gonna be my next soup bone" she responded flatly

"Ok well no, his name is Fu and the kwami is Wauzz or Wayzz or something. Anyway not important. Way I heard it is that after some war most of the kwamis got into circles. One reptile because they live the longest apparently, an ant or bee because they can basically sub in to protect things and then two pairs. But we're not like that."

Leon opened his notepad to a specific page, turned it around and pushed it towards Siobhan

"See, way I've got it figured out, we've got a circle in Paris, they've got Cat, Ladybug, Butterfly and Bee. Except Butterfly's gone evil or something? Information about it all is pretty scarce unless you've got a way in and French isn't anyone's strong suit."

Siobhan raised an eyebrow before she whispered with a fake husk to her voice "Bonsoir mi amore, jemappele... le Shark" and smirked suggestively.

Leon flushed and stuttered. "I..Look..It was...ohmygod I panicked! Shut up! Like you could do any better!"

This reaction, of course, led Siobhan to cackle like a madwoman.

Leon breathed out through his nose and glared causing her laughter to peter out as she attempted to compose herself

"Anyway..."

"Fine fine I'll be good"

"Appreciated. Now" Leon pointed at the next part of the page. "Circles here, here and moving north. 'Cuda was stingy with details but it's all but confirmed Toucan is in Belgium right now and she's made friends with a Circle near there. Problem the first, no clue who's who. As far as we know, Goose, Bear and Spider are on the continent but more than that who knows. Peacock was around a bit ago but nobody knows where she disappeared to. Questions?" he asked, seeing the quizzical look on her face.

Siobhan swallowed her mouthful before grabbing a pair of chopsticks and reaching over to grab a piece of tuna sashimi. She looked at it contemplatively before she looked back at Leon.

"So we're trusting 'Cuda now? And Toucan?"

Leon interrupted before she could go further. "Are you still holding grudges Von? Fiji was years ago. Hell, school was years ago! And considering Toucan is the only "proper" miraculous we know." A pointed look. "Fine. The only proper miraculous we know by proxy, I don't think we really have a choice"

Siobhan hesitated. "You know, we could always go to-"

Leon stiffened "Not a chance"

"But he-"

"Can go stick his dick in a blender"

She wrinkled her nose. "That's an image"

"Yeah but it'd be funny.. maybe... probably"

She rolled her eyes. "May I remind you he's my ex and I can still be perfectly professional around him."

what states or regions of the us do you think serenity’s crew came from? It’s heady to say they all came from the south but I think it’s more complex than that. The Tams feel very WASP-y, so Simon and River would be from New England, more specifically either Vermont or New Hampshire. Jayne is 100% from Appalachia. Wash is a midwesterner, I feel it in my heart.

I do not have the authority to answer this, as I've never stepped foot in the US. I can tell you about Australia though!

Mal - Northern Territory. It's a popular place for cattle ranches, and it's arguably the most "country" part of Australia.

Zoë - probably moving around with the navy, considering she's career military and grew up on a ship.

Wash - Melbourne. DEFINITELY a coffee snob when he has the resources. Also, given how he talks about his home planet in Our Mrs Reynolds and the lack of star visibility, probably the CBD.

Inara - Inara's difficult to place because we don't really know much about Sihnon, and because Australia was colonised relatively recently compared to the US we don't really have like,,, old money high society. To the best of my knowledge anyway. Most of the upper class here is golfing, not silken outfits and balls. But she describes the city as "an ocean of light" and so I'm gonna say Sydney, since they literally have a light festival (look up Vivid Sydney, it's really cool).

Jayne - bogan area of North Queensland. It's like the Australian Florida. Basically just look up Bob Katter, particularly Let A Thousand Blossoms Bloom, and you'll see what I mean.

Kaylee - also kind of tough because we don't know much about her upbringing, and mechanics are everywhere, but I'm gonna say also Melbourne solely because there's an extensive public transport system. I'm gonna say Pakenham, because it's relatively far out from the city and kind of bogan.

Simon and River - Kew. Inner east of Melbourne, very fancy, next to one of the most notorious Victorian private schools. Probably with a coastal mansion.

Book - he's not telling.

I can understand the Tams being from Kew, but consider, that coastal mansion? Add an s. Because first of all, there's the social one in Beaumaris or somewhere along Beach Road, I'm thinking closer to Brighton than St Kilda but I've seen those property prices. Regardless, you know the ones, big modern setpieces if in Beaumaris, old style architecture on Beach Road (I'm leaning more Beaumaris but that's because I'm biased) then there's the social one that's ostensibly for "family" holidays. Something like Torquay or Phillip Island, the "peasant holiday but still classy and respectable" locations.

If they're flying though it's definitely to the Whitsundays or New Zealand. No question.

Thinking about the Masks in Viva Pinata

Everyone has them, everyone wears them constantly, and yeah it could just be "what's in" in a fashion way, but I like to imagine them as something more, the mask you choose to wear is your face, your identiy, you, and the face underneath must be incredibly personal too.

I also think how big it is that the masks aren't even something that Professor Pester touches. He has one of his own, but if that's the culture then that makes sense.

Being the shameless monster that he is, it would be so easy for him to choose to break someone's mask (we know they're breakable as Seedos mentions it), and given that we see Leafos and Seedos wander into your garden it would be conceivable for Pester to be an asshole, run over, and crack someone's mask in.

Now gamewise, this probably wasn't done because of the animation and extra work for something that probably won't do anything except scare of Leafos or Seedos.

BUT STORY WISE!!!!! STORY WISE, PEOPLE! Imagine if a mask is something so sacred, so important that even someone like Professor Pester could see breaking it as "too far"

- Inara could beat most people in a horse race. Her speciality back home was Steeplechase but the skills are incredibly transferrable in a surprising amount of situations

- After Wash dies, Zoe maintains and expands his dinosaur collection. She does grow a bit concerned when some of them start showing up not exactly where she left them though. (It's everyone else. Independent of each other. This is never acknowledged by any of them)

-Kaylee is vicious in any sort of card or boardgame. She plays skill off as fluky situations or "Serenity deserves to play too. She told me to do X". There is always some sort of very obvious sound from the ship she "pays attention to". Jayne is 90% convinced River is the one doing it

You see though, for sea travel you want big strong people who are capable of managing rigging.  For space travel you want small low-mass people who are technically educated, as they are called, nerds.  Your space shanties are going to be less booming and more squeaky.

Like, I am 100% in favor of shanties in as many situations as possible, but I’m having trouble coming up with a mode of space travel that would require multiple humans to move in concert, thus necessitating songs with a strong beat to move to.

Sea chanties were for providing a strong beat to move to.  Space chanties might very well arise just because we’re bored, out there between point A and point B for so long.

Space shanties are for warp piloting. Under warp drive, human time perception and time as measured by crystal or atomic oscillators don’t match. Starship pilots listen to a small unamplified chorus singing a careful rhythm while keeping their own eyes on a silent metronome that the chorus can’t see, linked to a highly-precise atomic clock. How the chorus and metronome fall in and out of sync tells the pilot how to keep the ship safely in the warp bubble and correctly on course.

Depending on route, a typical warp jump can last anywhere from one to ten minutes, and most courses consist of five to fifteen jumps before a necessary four to six hour break to check the engines, plot the next set of jumps, and give everyone a chance to recover. A good shanty team, with reliable rhythm, a broad, versatile, and extendible repertoire, and the stamina to do 3-4 sets a day over the course of a voyage, is just as vital to space travel as a pilot, navigator, or engineering team.

This time it seemed ever human on the ship was singing.
