thanks for the response, since the message got deleted I think some of my points weren’t explained well or misremembered, you drawing characters with darker skin in your own art was never a problem tho especially since your a poc yourself the issue was more when dealing with ethnicities/labels that aren’t your own because it can easily go from being diverse to being offensive which I’m sure is not what u intend, the white people thing was more of just be aware of pseudo-woke fetishy white people

I totally get that! The main problem with trying to have a diverse cast of characters is that even with the best of intentions people tend to fall into stereotypes of folks they don’t know well, but the best way to avoid that is to either pick from groups that you are part of/very familiar with (for example I make a lot of MENA characters bc that’s what I am) or to research on racist caricatures/stereotypes that x groups face (my Illuso and Bruno are Romani so I’ve done a fair bit of research into the problems they face and have adjusted my designs accordingly). I can’t say I’ve done a perfect job 100% of the time but I’m doing my best to have a fun cast of characters while avoiding offensive characterization/designs!

I got an anon earlier about if I thought it was a good idea to edit/draw villain characters with darker skin but when I checked this morning it disappeared so sorry that I’m responding like this but I’ll try to answer as much as I can remember. This also ended up being a lil long so it’s going under a cut

I don’t just draw villain characters with darker skin/different ethnicities than canon that’d be extremely weird I draw most characters as non-white. Which I do bc I myself am not white and I just don’t want to draw white folks all the time. My main fixation in jojo has been La Squ/adra so maybe that’s why you think that? I’ve actually been thinking more critically of my La Squ/adra designs since I’ve come back to jojo and have been modifying them over the last few weeks (which is why I haven’t been drawing them over on my art blog even tho there’s been a rise in VA popularity recently). If you follow me on twitter I’ve talked about changing skin tones/designs of a couple of the characters (Illu/so and Forma/ggio esp) and drawing the Bucc/ellati gang more often since I draw most of them as different ethnicities too and they’re the “good guys” of VA.

The other part of your message was about why I was drawing characters of color sexually (maybe you meant to send it to my art blog?) which I will take tbh. I take a lot of inspiration from fashion magazines for poses and stuff and those are often suggestive. My thinking was that since I was drawing men in those poses instead of women that it was fine but that doesn’t take in consideration how men of color are sexualized in media so I apologize and I’ll work on moving away from that.

You also mentioned that white folks that were rb-ing my edits were calling the characters sexy which. I can’t control. I don’t know what I would do about that. Not even god can control white people. You also said that not all dark skinned characters are black which is true? Most of the characters I draw are from Asia (mostly west and south) like myself so idk what you meant by that. I can’t remember if there was anything else you mentioned in your ask so I’m sorry if I skipped over something
