fun facts about him and about making him:
- his carapace is about 30 cm in diameter and his arms + hands are about 45 cm long each. I don't think either of those were the original intended measurements
- he took about 16 hours in total, including making a pattern and figuring out what the heck I was doing (the most experience I have sewing is hand sewing patches onto a jacket and the very bad mini rocky I made out of t-shirt scraps the other day)
- said "pattern" he was made from was a collection of pages of old latin notes taped together and cut out. it would be gracious to say anything made sense or was actually measured right. or measured at all
- the original pattern was for movie rocky, but I messed up the dimensions and the carapace ended up looking like book rocky when stuffed, so I switched directions and eyeballed patterns for his legs, hands, fingers, and radiator vents on top from my heart and soul. little maths were involved and I did not know the relative dimensions his arms and hands would be compared to each other or the rest of his body. the concept of symmetry was nowhere to be found. why did I do it that way you may ask? good question. my current theory is that I did not take my adhd medication that morning
- I had access to exactly one entire pin. basically nothing was pinned down while being sewed. I also didn't have a seam ripper
- a good few pieces of him were handsewn and I only had two sewing needles. one broke right as I started the largest section of hand sewing, and the other was bent the whole time
- this is the first time I've properly used a sewing machine in, like, over a decade. I'm pretty sure the last time I used a sewing machine was when I was 8 or so and being taught how to use one for the first time. and I, of course, remembered nothing of that. I learned how to put the bobbin in like like two days ago
- he is very huggable and his arms are long enough to be able to reach around a persons torso and "hug" them back
- I love him very very much
