In fact the only reason it has ever struggled is because it is so non-inflammatory as a social media site that it consistently manages to push away all people who have to be mad at the world all the time.

Shane Dawson Controversy

So clips and audio of Shane from several years ago is being brought back up again and I decided to address it. I’m gonna divide this up so people have an easier time finding the topics they want.

Ped******a Accusations

Shane is being accused of being a ped*****e again. The same clip from the Pop Blast video made over a year ago has resurfaced and is being retweeted. This said video was highly edited to make Shane sound awful and once it was revealed that the video was edited, Pop Blast claimed Logan Paul’s manager payed them to make the video, posted cryptic videos in order to deflect blame and then the channel was deleted. Yet, now people are once again using that obviously edited video that had an obvious agenda as proof of Shane being a ped*****e. I also wanna address the main point of the controversy, which is people saying Shane called a six year old girl “sexy”. This is being misunderstood. When Shane called the girl sexy he did not mean to say that she was sexually attractive. What he actually meant was that her photos on Instagram were too sexually explicit for her age. He did not say it with the meaning being that he finds the little girl attractive. I also wanna state that not a single person has come out against Shane Dawson. No one has claimed he’s abused them, made them uncomfortable or even say they had a bad fan encounter with him in real life. I don’t agree with his jokes but I can tell that they are just jokes.

Beasitality Accusations

An audio clip from a deleted podcast resurfaced where Shane says he dry humped on his cat and came on it when he was 19. I HIGHLY doubt he was serious. While I do think it’s a gross story/joke to tell, if Shane had actually done that, I doubt he would admit it. Also wouldn’t his co-host Jess tell him not to make that public if she truly thought he could get in trouble over it? We can all agree the joke was gross and in poor taste but a bad joke does not mean that Shane is actually into beastiality. As for him deleting it. That doesn’t mean he’s guilty. It more than likely means, “Wow, that was really dumb, why would I say that? I better delete it so no one takes it the wrong way.”

The Blackface

Now, I’m not gonna say that the blackface wasn’t bad, it was. Shane never should have done it all those times. However he did address it in a video he made a few years ago where he apologized, understood why the blackface was wrong and promised to be better. I don’t understand why something someone has apologized for and admitted fault over needs to be brought up again to try to villainize them. You can be angry and dissapointed with Shane for doing blackface but you have to also acknowledge that he isn’t doing it anymore. I’ve also seen people basically say Shane is a racist vis association because he has worked with Jake Paul and Jeffree Star. Wouldn’t that make everyone who has associated with Shane racist as well by that logic? Does that mean Morgan, Andrew, Garrett, Jess, Ricky Dillon and many more are racists because they work with Shane?

Conclusion

I think the reason why all of this stuff is coming back up is because Shane’s audience more than doubled in size in the past year and a lot of new fans don’t know of his past. So when they see old stuff from him, they think he was this awful person. Shane did some fucked up jokes and sketches back in the day. He has changed however. How can we allow people to mature and become better if we constantly shove their past poor behavior in their face all the time? Let people grow, let people change, let them learn from their past wrongdoings.
