I’m transmasc, they/them/he/him pronouns, old enough to rent a car and then some. Here you will find my literature — with a deep interest in fantasy and horror — mostly fiction, occasional poetry.

My main WIP right now is The Dog Yard, which is about to receive a complete overhaul since I’ve just finished rewriting its outline entirely. I’m also dabbling with the idea of another YA adventure all together!

I reblog advice and resources on writing in addition to your run of the mill meme, and occasionally posts which have nothing to do with writing at all. If it makes me happy, it goes on the blog. Simple-as!

like tbh i feel like my problem with the “dark and gritty!!” trend in modern stories is this

there’s this idea in our culture that cynicism is realistic? that only children believe in happy endings, that people are ultimately selfish and greedy and seeing with clear eyes means seeing the world as an awful place

that idealism is– easy, i guess. butterflies and sunshine and love are easy things to have in your head.

but i’ve known since i was fifteen that idealism– faith in humanity– optimism– is the most difficult thing in the entire world.

i constantly struggle to have faith in humanity, because it’s really, really easy to lose it. it’s easy to look at the news and go “what were you expecting? of course humans behave this way.” it’s easy to see the world and go “ugh, there’s no hope there.” and the years when i believed that were easy. miserable– but easy.

it is hard work to see the good in people. it is hard work to hope. it is hard work to keep faith and love and joy and appreciation for beauty in my daily life.

and when moviemakers and tv producers and writers go “omg!!! all characters are selfish and act poorly and don’t love each other, nothing ever happens that is happy or good, that’s so much more realistic, that’s so much more adult”

no, it’s not

it’s childish.

in all seriousness though a fandom doesn't die when there's no new episodes or games or "content" to play with and it doesn't die because people aren't as loud as the day it first came out either. if you're still creating then the fandom is alive. if your mutual who has since moved on still reblogs a post about it every four months then the fandom is alive. if there is even one person out there still engaging in, creating for, or just enjoying that show or that game or those characters, then the fandom is alive.

"fresh content" isn't the soul of a fandom. you are.

When you're a kid you just take trees for granted. Then when you get to be an adult you realize that a fully mature tree cannot be created in an amount of time that fits in a convenient landscaping timeframe for love nor money nor all the powers of science. Then you realize that people are very very very cavalier about chopping them down

paleontologists ruined spinosaurus when they decided it could fly

the funniest thing about this is that people still haven't settled on how Spinosaurus would stand up (is it bipedal? quadrupedal? knuckle walking?) so part of this posing is probably them throwing their hands up and being like fuck it, just dangle the thing from the ceiling

palaeontologists do the same thing with ground sloths. they don't know how it balanced on those whacky front feet (palm down? knuckling like a gorilla?), so instead they just pose it clutching a random tree
