Night of the Living Writers- Day 1- Trees
I had HORRIBLE writers block, but here we go!!!!!
Mallor felt as if the trees were watching him. It was the middle of spring, but he still felt as if the cold of winter was still snagging at his darkened skin and seeped into his bones. How long had it been? How long since he first came into these woods? The 'Ohi'a lehua seemed to already be blooming brightly, and he could just feel the long hopbush gently caressing his legs. Despite the life and color the wilderness had, Warren could not feel more mournful and angry. How dare the world seem to be celebrating today? How dare it seem to rejoice on the anniversary of something so terrible?!
He could still hear her laugh. After all these years, he could still make out the sound of her skipping and dancing by him in the grass. He could swear the sound of the branches moving in the wind was of her giddily climbing the massive trunks, in hopes of seeing the coast from her throne of leaves and bark. He could swear his tired and sullen blue eyes recently met those deep blue of life. The memories both hurt and made him nearly crack a smile. For as long as he could remember, she was by his side. Just them both against the cold and harsh world they were born in.
God, the thoughts even made his grip harden on the old sweater he was wearing, despite the warmth of spring. It was the last thing he had of her. Taking care of hands and fingers pinched by the needles of a seamstress, the bright colors of fabric as they were seamlessly woven together into elegant and unique clothes. That's what he missed the most. She loved life so much. She loved the feeling of the grass between her toes and the warm sun against her skin. It was almost impossible to remember...
Mallor felt his throat tighten. He was there. The hibiscus blossoms were the brightest shade of yellow in the sunlight. Right in front of that bush of flowers was a marked grave. The foliage seemed to sit around the bush and small mound of dirt as if they mourned as well. And finally, the forest was still. The man knelt by the overgrowth, reaching into his pockets and pulling out a photo, crumpled and worn with time. Him and his twin sister, happily grinning to the old camera used for the shot.
"I-I'm sorry that I'm late," Mallor mumbled, placing the photo softly to the grave, "I found it... hard, to get up." He stopped to let in a shaky breath. "I'm sorry, Jasper. If only-" A sniffle rose this time, "-if only I could've done something... If only you were still here..." He couldn't bear to talk anymore, quietly sobbing as his head lowered. Above him and his deceased sister, the trees bent in the wind. Along with Warren, the trees seemed to mourn and weep.
2019 - The Night of the Living Writers, We’re back!
Hello everyone, my name is Note and last year I ran the October event The Night of the Living Writers last year!
NOTE: Last year, I posted the prompts to my main (formerly @writerofwriting now @note-katha) but now it will all be posted here!
It’s back! So, reblog/reply to this post to be added to this year’s taglist :D
What is The Night of the Living Writers, you ask?
TNLW is a month-long event where this blog ( @thenightofthelivingwriters) posts three fall/spooky/halloween themed prompts everyday!
Post your prompts and tag this blog (and me, note, if you feel compelled) and have fun!
Words to replace said, except this actually helps
I got pretty fed up with looking for words to replace said because they weren’t sorted in a way I could easily use/find them for the right time. So I did some myself.

Leather and Lace + You Keep Me Warm Romance Event
This February we are excited to bring you a month of Romance! I present to you, the Leather and Lace + You Keep Me Warm Romance Event all through the month. Hosted by myself, @starsandskies and @vorchagirl. This month is dedicated to celebrating all of the romances, potential romances, or dreamed of romances, in a positive, friendly, and accepting way.
Leather and Lace:
The aim of this portion is to encourage fans to create art or renders or graphics, capture screenshots, write fanfiction or poetry, or discuss their favourite romantic tropes. There are different themed prompts to choose from, Smut, Romance, Fluff, and classic tropes, with little sub prompts to help anyone lacking inspiration. Participants can choose to either take a Leather or a Lace approach. That is, you can choose to create NSFW /smutty content, or you can approach things in a fluffier, sweeter, and G-rated manner. If you already have a piece of writing, art or HC that is perfect for this event, please feel free to share it!
You Keep Me Warm:
Remember that event back in July when we were all being prompted by our followers and mutuals for some smut? This is a continuation of that for those who didn’t finish all their prompts, as well as get new ones (or clear some prompts out of your inbox, because let’s face it we all have some) and create art or renders or graphics, capture screenshots, write fanfiction or poetry, or discuss their favourite romantic tropes, while interacting with others, but if you want to ask for more prompts or delve into a new pairing, this is the place for that too. You can again choose whether to take a lacy approach with happy g-rated content or a leather approach with all the smut.
When does it run?

Are there any rules?
- Please avoid all fandom wank and negativity. Fandom drama, discourse, or anti-ship/character hate is not welcome. In fact, hate in general is not welcome.
- It should go without saying that sexist, racist, queerphobic, ableist etc. behaviour is equally unwelcome. In short: Be excellent to each other!
- Follow the golden rules: Ship and Let Ship & Your Kink is Not My Kink!
- Tag your work if it’s NSFW and for all major warnings/triggers - it’s only polite!
- Please respect LGBT+ characters sexualities and pronouns
- This is a celebration of consensual romance, in all its forms.
- This is a sex positive event, and that means that all healthy and consensual sexual relationships are welcome. In the same vein, romance does not necessarily equal sex, and of course this means that asexual and aromatic relationships are welcome too, as are casual sexual relationships.
Tags & Thank yous
Please tag your work with #romancemonth within the first 5 tags if you participate so we can see all the lovely fanworks you guys are sharing or tag one of us(@AlyssAlenko, @VorchaGirl, or @StarsandSkies) directly!
We also have an AO3 collection I am working on fine-tuning, but should be up and running by the time everything starts.
Signal Boosts are very welcome so we can spread the word about this event!
“no one will read a book if the character is gay.”
Someone just told me that no one would read my novel if the main character is gay.
Like or reblog if you would READ OR BUY A BOOK WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER IS HOMOSEXUAL.
In Age of the Demigods
Arcs 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 all include homosexual protagonists
Antagonist-Centered Plot Twist Ideas
The antagonist unexpectedly does something to help the MC. What is their true motivation?
The antagonist realized that they have been manipulated by a greater evil this whole time.
The antagonist is revealed to actually be a pretty likable, empathetic character. Even more so than the MC…
The antagonist falls in love with a minor protagonist.
The antagonist has been helping the MC the entire time, although their ‘help’ did seem a lot like villainous behavior.
The antagonist has been secretly helping the MC, while acting harmful to be spared from a greater evil. (a prince pretends he wants to banish all the Rebels to satisfy his tyrant father, all the while helping the Rebels behind the scenes).
The antagonist meets the hero. Neither of them know who the other is.
The antagonist has never existed in the first place.
The antagonist has been a figment of the hero’s imagination this whole time.
The antagonist is trying to help, but fails miserably at being good.
Feel free to add more!
The protagonist is actually the antagonist but the story just happened to have been written from his point of view
Can we talk about how in zombie shows/movies/books they always find a veterinarian and not a surgeon? Are veterinarians deemed more likely to survive the apocalypse?
Yup.
One of our professional skills is ‘not being bitten by patients’
We actually have a good broad knowledge base for both surgical, medical, and GP things
We’re used to improvising equipment because a lot of stuff is just not made for animals
Meat safety is part of our training
Our cars are often full of equipment, especially in mixed practice
We probably weren’t in the human hospital at the initial outbreak

Lynas-
Lynas is the demigod son of Loki. Because of his blood, the other Norse gods look down on him and his twin brother, Lynas’s goal being to prove himself to them and everyone else. Lynas is a carefree demigod who loves the thrill of adventure and traveling and will sacrafice anything for the ones he loves. Despite all these positive traits, Lynas can tend to think more with his heart more than his head, and he does not entirely think things through.
Charna-
Charna is the demigoddess daughter of Hades. Her goal is to show to the other gods and to influencr other demigods that there is more to being a halfblood than being an heir. She is a smart and caring woman who will more often than not act like a mother to those she cares about, reguardless of age. She, though, can be very stubborn and allow her emotions and past to get the best of her.
Yo bitches this is an ask blog my friend and I are doin!
We love this story and these ocs with all our hearts and have been working with them for about three years! Go follow and stick around to ask questions! Theres more refs coming
Bonus-
Incase ya wanted ti see her with her eyes open!
There are two types of writers…
Writer A: “I’ve fleshed this character out to the point where they’re more real then I am. I know everything about them, including their blood type, their thirty-first favorite song, what they did for their sixth birthday, and which brand of apples they prefer.”
Writer B: “This character exists as a full person in my head, but I know absolutely nothing about them. Once I forced them to talk about themselves, and they simultaneous lied about their past and told me accurate trivia facts I don’t remember learning.”
Writer C: “This character exists because I needed somebody to be the asshole in this argument”
How to make a character's death sadder
Don’t have them die of old age after a long, fulfilling life. Many people don’t even think of this as sad (note that this can still work if you have enough of the other factors).
Leave one of their major goals unfinished. The more enthusiastic they are about completing the goal, the sadder.
Give them strong relationships with other characters.
Make them fight against whatever is causing their death. Their ultimate loss is sadder if they struggle.
Kill them in the middle of their character arc.
Don’t describe their funeral in detail. Maybe it’s just me, but I find that long descriptions of funerals kill the sadness.
That’s enough Satan’s publisher…
>B)
7. If possible, try to kill them off in the middle of the story, so we had time to like them and we will have time to let the loss settle in.
8. Also, place surviving characters in a situation where having the deceased person there would help them get out. You can choose whether you will point this fact out or if you want the audience to make the connection themselves.
9. Make them die by sacrificing themselves to save someone they love from a danger created by the antagonist.
based on a few deaths that made me blub like a baby…
10. have their loved one, broken hearted, tell the team to stop fighting because “its over.”
11. have their pet come looking for them.
12. have their loved one perform a popular song at their funeral so it makes the fans cry whenever it’s played.
13. family witnessing the death and/or blaming themselves.
~ Mulan
so… let’s add some frustration to your dear readers’ sadness, shall we?
14. kill the character in the middle of making a joke, smiling, or expressing/experiencing joy/happiness.
15. make the character’s death slow and painful, but make them unable to call out for help even though they can literally see the other characters nearby.
16. after killing the character, have others think the character had betrayed them so they’d always hate them and remember them as traitors and never say nice things about them… Give your readers no chance to have group-therapy with other characters by making them the only ones who know the truth.
17. right before their death, show a side of them nobody has seen. (someone who is always tough and brave being genuinely scared of dying alone; someone who is always laughing being in tears before dying, etc.)
18. make them the only person who knows a big important secret that would help other characters in the story.
19. have them being lied to before dying. (thinking they’ve been betrayed; thinking they weren’t loved; thinking they’ve lost their loved ones, etc)
20. make the character very enthusiastic/passionate about a certain goal, constantly put stress on their goal, have them die unexpectedly before they can reach their goal.
and the best one…
21. have another beloved character kill them–better be a close friend to your character, one that absolutely nobody suspects, one that everyone can’t help but love, one who is always enthusiastic about things and encourages your character. THEN
reveal the truth only later when it’s too late and the a-hole character has already escaped.
have a cowardly character know the truth and never tell anyone else
have another character find out the truth and have them die before revealing it to others.
have the said character ^ not actually die, but go through something so they’d forget the friend of the deceased character is actually an asshole.
This way only your readers will know the truth, thus the frustration would be… most enjoyable for you.
Satan out.
24. Show how it effects the other characters. Don’t just gloss over it. Is this the death that pushes them over the edge? Do they blame themselves? Do they scream at everyone and break down, or do they suffer silently?
25. Have their family find out. The mother screams, the dad cries, the brother punches the wall or holds the body sobbing “I was supposed to protect him”, or “come on, you need to wake up”
Antra no stop pls
22. Don’t kill their body. Kill their mind.
Leave the physical shell walking and talking, but strip out everything that made that person who they were. Make them forget all about their loved ones, themselves, their experiences and past, their skills, and have them have to start over completely from scratch. Physical and mental disabilities bonus points.
And keep them in a place where their loved ones will be taunted every day by a living ghost.
27. Have them die by accident. Take the character the readers will love most, who has never been mundane throughout all the time the readers knew them. Take that special character, the leader, the fighter, and let them die from something none of your characters could have prevented. A rotten bridge, a runaway carriage or drunk driver. Anything that could happen to anyone. Let it happen to them.
I feel so much pain right now.
This post pleases me
Describe their death through a loved one’s eyes during a moment of triumph. Describe their exhilaration about their win, only to crush it later as the character dies
thanks @happydooky for suggesting posts so often!
28. Make the death pointless. Maybe they died trying to save their child from the antagonist, but it turns out the antagonist never had the child, they were just at a friend’s house and forget to leave a message.
29. Make the death a character whom someone else depended on to keep themself functional. Make the death happen to a character who knew what to do to keep their friend or family from spiraling downward. Don’t necessarily kill this character off, let them slowly get back onto their own feet later, but first let the surviving character get knocked down. Let them get lost without their supportive character.
30. Make it happen after an argument. Make them die before they had a chance to make amends. Cripple the surviving character with guilt over what turned out to be their last words to each other, now to be left unresolved forever.
31. Give the other characters survivor’s guilt.
32. Make a surviving character have to take over the dead character’s responsibilities. Make them feel overshadowed, struggling to live up to the idolized memory of the dead character. Let them try to emulate the dead character in the role they inherited, then struggle with the fact that they’re not that dead character.
This is so useful seeing as I kill off all my characters

Your First 5 Pages
When you send a novel to an agent or publisher, they normally ask for the first five or ten pages, just so that they can gauge your writing skill. If those pages don’t grab the reader, it won’t sell.
As an editor, I read thousands of stories a year, and it would be difficult to tell you all of the ways that you can go wrong, or all of the things that you can do right. But let’s hit some main points:
1) From the very first sentence, I want to see that you’re not just a competent writer, but a skillful one. I want to see that you have a way with words, so that I feel as if I’m in the hands of a professional storyteller. That means that I won’t feel confused, and I won’t get tripped up by typos or beginner’s mistakes. Indeed, I want to see that you’re talented right from the first sentence. Half of the editors and agents say that they look for a great voice right out the gate, whether it be the voice of the narrating character or of the author.
2) I want to know (or at least have some great hints) where and when the story is taking place. It helps if the setting is intriguing and beautifully drawn. Of course, when you bring that setting to life, you should appeal to most of the senses quickly—sight, sound, smell, touch, taste.
3) I want to know who the protagonist is and I want to see you handling the viewpoint properly. This means that the protagonist moves, has an emotional state, and thinks, so that we aren’t seeing the tale from a camera’s point of view, but from a real person’s. More than that, it is often helpful if the character is likeable or interesting or even both.
4) In the opening five pages, I must see a hint of an intriguing conflict, one that is already building toward a climax. To get that in quickly, this means that you almost need to start the story in media res.
5) In my business as a science fiction and fantasy editor, I want to see some novelty—something that tells me that your work is original, that you’re capable of coming up with something new.
Now, that’s my short list. I could go on and suggest that I want to see that you know how to construct a scene, that you can dazzle the reader in subtle ways that most pros know, that you know how to construct a plot, that you tastefully insert the emotional draws your audience is hoping for, that you are a pro at constructing believable dialog—and a dozen other little things.
But as you can see, for the first five pages, I can only hope for so much. All that I really want is to be convinced that you’re one of the greatest discoveries that I’ve ever made. If you think that an agent or editor wants anything less, you’re mistaken. The truth is that every editor and every agent who reads your manuscript is hoping that your tale demands to be published
THIS.
me writing dialogue: “what is man but a vessel through which a higher entity may see? what is his purpose? must he find a purpose? we are but stardust; the universe comprehending itself.”
me writing action: they ran real fast from the bad men aand legs hurty
me writing action: Her legs pounded against the earth, the familiar jolt grounding her like nothing else could. Magic, gods, royalty—she didn’t know anything about that. But running? That’s something she’d been doing since day one.
me writing dialogue: “I dunno man whatchu wanna do” “I dunno. What do you think?” “Hey man I don’t know”
me writing action: room go boom
me writing dialogue: noppity nope, that ain’t dope
The holy trinity of writing
the second one is Tom Hardy talking to himself tho right?
Me, writing backgrounds: The trees were ablaze with green, sunlight softly filtering through the leaves and lighting the forest with life. The sweet sound of birdsong rang through as the leaves and ferns teemed with life. There was life and warmth all over the forest enviroment.
Me, writing actions: She growled in pain before shaking it off, gripping her spear. With a scream of anger, sge charged and chucked the weapon out of her hands, huffing as she watched the blade embed itself in the monster's eye. The beast screeched in pain, rearing back.
Me, writing diologue: "oh hey man wassup" "nothin much" "yo did you eat the last chip" "shit man" "bro wtf"
My Three Main WIPs
Warriors of the Glade
My longest running WIP. Its basically a Maze Runner AU. Its fanfiction. I'm making a comic about it and you can find it at @warriors-of-the-glade. This is more of a Maze Runner/Warrior Cats hybrid.
Age of the Demigods
My most ambitious and developed. It is a nine arc series following a small group of demigods from nine diffirent mythologies. It's on the brink of being fully outlined and has been drafted a good five times. I'm the most proud of this one
Black Hollow
My newest idea that I am VERY excited for. Black Hollow is a way for me to get all of my characters out of storage and brush them up! I'll give more details soon, but I assure its BIG.
All of these WIPs are being done in collaboration with @imnotbiasedbutwendigosbest! As of now, AotD is our top priority!
So with the whole purge thing
The only other social media I use is Discord, so you can send a friend request there to talk to me!
