i’m honestly not sure if Hollanov would ever have kids, but i feel like if they did, it would happen in the most unconventional way.

Like maybe one day Ilya and Shane start housing teenage hockey players that are traveling to go to their camps. And one of these kids is a young boy who has a bad temper. He talks back to the coaches, he starts fights on the ice for no reason, and a lot of the other kids really don’t like him. But Ilya notices that maybe there’s a reason he’s acting this way, and when he tells Shane that he thinks there’s something going on with the kid, Shane starts investigating almost immediately. Soon enough they find out that the kid is in foster care, his parents kicked him for whatever reason (although in my brain said teen would probably be some form of queer and his parents would not like that) and now the kid is basically jumping around housed. And that’s when Shane and Ilya decide to help him. At first it’s small stuff, they take him on outings. They buy him gifts. They try to make him feel loved. And then all of a sudden it’s this kids last day at the Hollanov house, and for the first time Shane and Ilya watch this extremely guarded kid cry because he doesn’t want to go back to jumping around houses. He wants to stay there and play hockey. Unfortunately, due to all the legality, he can’t stay. But that night Ilya and Shane started the process to become foster parents. And one day the kid comes back for camp, but instead of leaving after the summer, he gets to stay.

And that’s how Hollanov adopt their first kid.

In my head Shane is 14 when one of his coaches finds him on the ice doing extra drills after practice and he makes some Crack like, "Guess you're not a once in a generation talent after all." And Shane is surprised and doesn't know what he means, and thinks maybe he did something wrong? A stupid newspaper called him a generational talent a couple months ago and the kids on his team - well it's fine. They're still winning. "More like twice huh?" The coach finishes. He holds up a DVD in an unlabled jewel case (because it's 2005) "Got something you're going to want to see."

The coach takes him to the video room and puts the DVD in, "There's a kid in Russia, same age as you. They're saying he's the next Gordie Howe."

He presses play and they watch a shaky video of two Russian teams. Shane's heart starts racing as he watches. He can immediately tell who coach is talking about. One of them is clearly faster and smarter than the rest, moving through the defense with a slick confidence that Shane immediately finds fascinating.

"His name is uh," coach digs though a pile of paper, "Romanof or something." He finds what he's looking for, "Ilya Rozanov. He'll be draft eligible the same year you will."

Shane feels that same sense of determination, terror, and joy he always feels when one of his coaches talks about him getting drafted like it's a forgone conclusion. He keeps watching the kid on the ice, the same age as him, and very good, and also already set for the draft.

His play style is fascinating, and when his shift is over Shane grabs the remote to fast forward to the next time he gets on the ice, wanting to see more.

His coach laughs and claps him on the shoulder, "Don't worry about him too much. You won't be playing him for a couple of years."

Shane watches this boy skate around his teammates like it's easy, like he's bored, maybe as bored as Shane sometimes is with his own team. He can't wait.

It's not that Shane doesn't get irritated when people hit on his husband, because he does. It infuriates him. But Shane is not threatened, so he does not need to stake his claim by draping himself all over Ilya and announcing himself as Ilya's husband.

Ilya usually does this for Shane.

All Shane usually needs to do is come stand next to Ilya, smile at him, and then usually Ilya's hand reaches itself around and settles on Shane's waist or his ass, sometimes if Ilya is feeling especially romantic he will even pull Shane back against him and wrap his arms around him, hooking his chin over Shane's shoulder and continuing to talk as if he wasn't suddenly leaning all his weight against Shane's sturdy body. He will introduce Shane as "My husband, Shane Hollander". While he says this Shane likes to make direct eye contact with the person.

Just so they know.

After Shane and Ilya get married Ilya is so happy to finally change his pfp to be one of him and Shane. To piss Ilya off Hayden also changes his pfp to him and Shane. Cue different NHL players slowly changing their pfp to photos of them and Shane. It basically becomes and unspoken trend that when you enter the NHL you need to get a photo with Shane Hollander to change your pfp as a right of passage.

rewatching buck begins and once again wishing violence upon the buckley parents, when maddie explains to baby buck that sometimes people yell because they care so much and then they're okay again. her parents taught her that and then cut her off when she married the product of their teaching!!!!

actually letme take back everything i’ve ever asked for and the universe can collect my life’s worth of good deeds in exchange for a maddie begins episode. there’s still so much about her past (especially from her own point of view) that’s been left unexplored. after 9x12 would’ve actually been the perfect time for it. forget the nashville x mothers boy double feature. we should’ve gotten maddie begins x mothers boy smh. buckley siblings double whammy. technically triple.
