Much like the rest of the fandom I am obsessed with the nickname Shanebug. Thank you to whoever created it, I love you!

I like to think that Shane was given the nickname by David. When he was a toddler Shane was obsessed with any and every type of bug. He’d make David and Yuna take him in the garden all the time to dig for worms or look at the flowers to see if there were any bees. But his absolute favourite were ladybugs leading David to coin the nickname Shanebug.

Obviously once hockey took over his life Shane kind of forgot about his bug obsession. But once he gets settled living in Ottawa with Ilya he starts to pick it back up.

When Shane and Ilya went round to his parents for dinner he offhandedly mentioned that he was planning on adding some plants to the garden so more insects and bugs would visit. And David goes suddenly silent and starts to get teary.

David: Oh Shanebug is back

Ilya: Shanebug, what is a Shanebug?

This leads to Yuna getting out all Shane’s toddler pictures showcasing him holding a ladybug in his hands, him covered in mud pointing at a worm with the biggest grin on his face and him cross eyed as a butterfly lands on his nose. Ilya’s favourite though is a photo of Shane dressed up as a ladybug for his third birthday, antennas and all, that he gushes over.

Ilya is so besotted by the idea of Shanebug that he orders a gazillion different types of flowers and plants to give his husband the bug haven of his dreams (just as long as there are no spiders).

Love the idea of 'quiet, well-spoken, media trained' Shane Hollander having the most obnoxious, strange vocal stims. He 100% says random Russian words or english words with Ilyas accent just BC It feels good in his mouth and just does it without thinking. He will hear the doorbell go off and repeat it, going "ba,ba,ba" over and over until his brain quiets down. Or he hums/honks when he gets frustrated, focused or overstimulated BC it almost brings like a relief. Most people don't really know about it BC he masks and purposefully makes himself quiet or not ''annoying or disruptive'' but he's comfortable with Ilya and he is happily surprised to find that his boyfriend is never quiet and constantly making some kind of noise.

Ilya would absolutely love singing “Made in Japan” by Buck Owens to Shane but switching the genders to match him.

They move in together full time and Ilya notices that Anya acts differently with Shane than she does with him, more quiet and less playful, and he worries that means she doesn’t like Shane or is jealous, so he hires a dog trainer to come over and see if there’s anything they need to do to help

After a while of talking about how Anya acts the trainer says there’s nothing to worry about, Anya likes Shane just fine, it’s just that she sees him as the boss and is acting accordingly

And Ilya is like. But. I’m the one who adopted her? And raised her before Shane got here?? And the trainer is just like yeah well she sees you more like an equal. And Ilya is like WAIT she thinks Shane is in charge of both of us?? And the trainer is just like well do you interact in a way that would make her think that?

Ilya’s life flashes before his eyes as he thinks of all the times Shane has come over with a snack for Ilya and a treat for Anya, or all the times Shane has announced they’re all going for an after dinner walk, or pets Ilya’s hair and tells him he did a good job at practice, or the fact that he uses the same warning tone with Anya when she misbehaves as he does with Ilya when he’s causing problems on purpose

Shane comes home to Ilya with his face in his hands going oh god I’m not Anya’s dad I’m her brother and she thinks we’re both your pets. And Shane just goes. What.

I’m obsessed with the idea of Shane figuring out he can use his big beautiful doe eyes to get anything he wants.

He just widens his eyes, makes them a bit glassy and Ilya folds like a damn chair.

After a while Ilya figures out what he’s doing and screws his eyes shut to avoid looking at Shane.

Ilya: no Shane no I know what you’re doing, put your eyes away. You will not use your wicked spells on me today

Shane: Ilya will you just look at me please

Ilya always ends up looking at Shane because he can’t resist him and Shane gets his way every single darn time.

Do you think Shane ever got to show Ilya his well during the first trip to the cottage?

My boy was so excited about the prospect of telling someone about his well and you know Ilya would absolutely be enamoured listening to Shane ramble on about his well routine.

Some time after Shane joined the centaurs he over hears one of the rookies complaining that the tap in his apartment hasn’t been working for weeks and that his landlord is being so slow to fix it. And Shane being Shane offers to come by on their next day off to take a look at it and see if he can help. He’s picked up a few things over the years when up-keeping his cottage.

At their next practice the rookie boasts about how Hollzy came over and fixed up his apartment and that it’s never looked so good.

This sets off a trend of the other centaurs members going to Shane whenever they have a problem around the house that needs fixing: clogged gutters, broken cabinets, holes in the wall etc.

Shane is happy that he’s found a way to bond with his new teammates but Ilya is jealous that everyone gets to see his husband looking so sexy until he makes Shane roleplay Shane being a plumber and Ilya being the customer that doesn’t have enough money to pay him, so they have to come to another form of arrangement ;).

And that is how Shane became the centaurs resident handyman.

It makes Ilya absolutely feral that the only purpose of his big husband’s dick is to lay there and look pretty while Ilya fucks him.
