Internet Era has changed a lot in marketing, and how to do branding, how to engage with your customers. In this blog we are going to discs some differences and talk more about digital branding and what it is.
“Digital branding is a brand management technique that uses a combination of internet branding and digital marketing, online marketing to develop a brand over a range of digital venues, including internet-based relationships, device-based applications or media content” (Wikipedia, nd).
“Digital marketing is the marketing of products or services using digital technologies on the Internet, through mobile phone Apps, display advertising, and any other digital mediums”. (Wikipedia, nd).
Branding in general aims to make and create the connection. The connection needed between the consumers and the brand by more engaging them, its not exactly like marketing, its more engaging and about recognition. The branding sticks to customers mind while marketing it aims to market for the brand or what ever product or services, brand is about the brand itself. “While you may often hear the terms digital marketing and digital branding used interchangeably, they are quite different from one another. Digital marketing is more about pushing a certain product or service based on how good it is, whereas digital branding is a little more subtle than that. Instead of focusing on one particular product, digital branding highlights more the underlying values of the company”. (Madeline, 2018). We can describe it as a long-term marketing for the brand.
A lot of people think so if we do marketing why do we need branding, lets discuss the branding benefits. First the multichannel, when a brand have a strong branding it will allow the brand to spread easier and engage easier with people “customers” or “potential customers”. Not to forget about being viral, in this era, which is considered digital era, being viral is not easy and its very rewarding for a brand. Engaging, branding its how you can engage customers with their feedback, likes, shares, tags. Branding help the brand in better connecting with their consumer.
“Digital branding is a vital step in building any successful business. For that reason, it’s important to have a solid digital branding strategy in place before you begin. Not only will this allow you to increase your company's popularity, it will enable you to build a much stronger relationship with your customer”. (Madeline, 2018).
Digital marketing allows the brand to market and use marketing platforms to market for their new product and services, or even any new promotions and events happening, it’s like announcing, and make the customers aware of what going with your brand.
What’s the differences between the traditional and digital, either for marketing or branding! the traditional was by using prints, such as magazines, flyers, newspaper or maybe television, while digital are more into social platforms, and paid searches, paid ads on media. There is a lot of studies that shows that this generation can only be reached by social media and digital use, “statistics indicate that social media branding may be a better way of targeting younger consumers compared with traditional methods like print advertising. 59 percent of 18 to 29 year old use Instagram, for example, compared to just eight percent of people aged 65 and over”. (Dewberry, J 2018).
Using the media platforms can help in your brand marketing as well as branding, here is some tips, and how to do that. First you have to encourage your customers to share your brand, for example Nike make it easier for their followers on the social media platform to share their content as well as tag Nike and Nike uses that as well, they tag their followers they make them feel engaged, and valued. Also, you can share engaging content, stories or creative images. Not to forget that many brands uses sponsors to market their products, for example Nike and Cristiano Ronaldo, or any other famous athlete.
In conclusion to understand more what the difference between marketing and branding is, we need to know that branding is strategy and marketing is building awareness. Marketing will keep in changing and evolving, branding is your message and marketing is to deliver your message. Branding always comes first, because it’s the core, its who the brand is, and marketing comes next because it will make the brand enter the market and build awareness to the brand in the market. The brand is what keeps your customer coming and your marketing is to help he brand in creating more awareness and promotion for any new offering, such as product, service, promotion and events.
