→ blaqk blinked owlishly, eyes round with surprise as his hand remained extended, paused halfway from its journey to collect the warm cup of tea resting on the coffee table. while the two had shared serious discussions before, blaqk had not anticipated a discussion today. dropping his hand to the edge of the couch, blaqk used the leverage to move himself closer to the boy, providing dabin his full attention.
he loves his group; his brothers; this friends. every single member is special to him and blaqk would never want to hinder their individual growth. the problem, however, was dabin’s and his drives had never diverted like this. when it came to music, both are driven by perfection. now, dabin was telling him he wanted to begin a path that would lessen their joint practices and put further pressure on the boy that seemed to have ran before he even knew how to crawl. it worried blaqk - for rubato, for dabin - and so he was nervous.
on a personal level, he was thrilled and enthusiastic, ready to cheer the boy onward. professionally, however, he was careful to immediately encourage his bandmate into something that could cause a hindrance.
in the end, his love for his younger brother won out.
“if that’s what you’ve already decided, you should. you’re smart. you should be able to see how far you can go but be careful. be mindful - of your limits, your health, the music, and the fans. i know we shouldn’t pay it any mind but if you begin to slack, they will point to your education as reason. and not just the fans, but the company as well. your education should never be faulted but i think we’ve both been around long enough to know nothing is off limits to criticism. have you considered this already? i support you, but i want you to be aware of some of the struggles that may come.”
╰☆╮ WHY WAS HE so tense anyways? The answer is actually obvious. There's a lot of opinions Dabin doesn't care about. Like those netizens who have nothing else to do but hate on their group. Or him. Or on the opposite end, the obsessive fans. Or the extreme solo fans. But he cares a lot about Blaqk's opinion. It might be since he's the youngest he relies a lot on all his band members. They're the family he's never had before. So as people do with their family members, they want to keep them happy. Pleased.
Dabin didn't realize he was holding his breath until Blaqk speaks. There's a long but slow exhale from his nose, doing it in a way so that the other didn't notice. Then once he's done that he's nodding along. It's to show that he's listening which he definitely is. The more that his band member speaks the more that the plain expression on his face cracks. He finally breaks a smile but Dabin knows it's not over yet. There's always more. He's been in the industry long enough to know that.
❝ I know, ❞ Dabin doesn't know if he actually does, but he feels like he's prepared for it. Once he experiences it things might change but for now he's confident. ❝ I've thought about that already. But I'm also thinking that what I'm going to do will help us later on. Because I want to learn how to write music. I know there're rules but I don't know what they are. I want to learn them. ❞
Dabin hopes he's getting his points across. ❝ Like apparently there’s a primary, sub-dominant and dominant note? I didn’t know that. But I'll be taking it part-time so nobody has to worry. And if there are online courses I'll take them. So that even when we're on tour I can do things. Maybe that’ll show that I’m also taking it because I want to. Not because of...perks. ❞
He mumbles the last bit. Dabin's heard it before. The excuse that people are taking post-secondary to escape the army. That won't be him, and he'll prove it as soon as he can.
